CATEDRAL-SE (FARO)

La catedral de Faro dispone de elementos de varias épocas, su origen es del siglo XIII (erigida sobre una mezquita), quemada en el siglo XVI por los británicos y dañada por los terremotos de 1722 y 1755, tuvo numerosas reformas; lo más antiguo es la fachada gótica, con su arco ojival, el cuerpo superior sería del siglo XVI, aunque predominan los elementos del siglo XVIII.

VISITA : El horario del museo es de 10:15-17:00 (en verano hasta las 18:30).
   

CATHEDRAL-SE (FARO)

The catedral of Faro has elements of several periods, its origin is the 13 th century (erected on a mosque), burned in the 16 th century by the British and damages by the earthquakes of 1722 and 1755 had numerour reforms, the oldest is the Gothic façade with its pointed arch, the upper body would be from 16 th century, although the elements of the 18 th century predominate.

VISIT : The museum hours is from 10:15-17:00 (in summer until 18:30 pm).

 
 

MURALLAS (FARO)

Las murallas medievales de Faro encierran un bonito y apacible centro histórico, es una muralla de sillarejo, con sillería solo para dinteles y jambas, no tiene almenas, muy bonito es el Arco do Repouso, entrada principal de las murallas con una capillita en el pasillo de acceso.

WALLS (FARO)

The medieval walls of Faro enclose a nice and peaceful historical center, it is a wall of rubblework, with ashlar masonry only for lintels and jambs, it has no battlements, and very nice is the Arco do Repouso, main entrance of the walls with a chapel in the corridor of access

MUSEO ARQUEOLÓGICO (FARO)

En la Praça Dom Afonso III, se sitúa el magnífico Museo Arqueológico de Faro, también es conocido como Museo Municipal, dispone de colecciones romanas (mosaico del Océano del siglo III), una abundante colección de utensilios árabes y una no menos interesante colección de pinturas de Ferreira de Almeida.

VISITA : Entrada 2€. Horario de verano, de martes a viernes (10:00.18:00) y sábados y domingos (12:00-18:00). El horario de invierno, de martes a viernes (9:30-17:00) y sábados y domingos (11:30-17:30).

   

ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM (FARO)

In Praça Dom Afonso III, the magnificent Archaeological Museum of Faro is located, it is also known as the Municiapal Museum, it has Roman collections (the Ocean mosaic from 3 rd century), an abundant collection of Arab utensils and a no less interesting collection of paintings of Ferreira de Almeida.

VISIT : Entrance 2€. Summer hours from Tuesday to Friday (10:00-18:00) and Saturdays and Sundays (12:00-18:00). The winter hours from Tuesday to Friday (9:30-17:00) and Saturdays and Sundays (11:30-17:30).
 
 

RUINAS DE MILREU (ESTOI)

Las ruinas romanas de Milreu, son los restos de una villa romana, que se puede datar entre los siglos I y II d.C.; dispone de mosaicos, termas y un santuario que fue transformado en iglesia en el siglo VI. Además en Estoi puedes visitar el palacio rococó del siglo XVIII.

VISITA : Entrada 2 €, Horario de verano (10:30-13:00 y 14:00-18:30) y horario de invierno de octubre a abril (9:30-13:00 y 14:00-17:00).
   

MILREU REMAINS (ESTOI)

The Roman ruins of Milreu are the remains of a Roman villa, which can be dated between the 1 st and 2 nd centuries AD.; it has mosaics, baths and a sanctuary that was transformed into a church in the 6 th century. Also in Estoi you can visit the 18 th century Rococo palace.

VISIT : Admission €2. Summer time (10:30-13:00 and 14:00-18:30) and winter hours from Ocrober to April (9:30-13:00 and 14:00-17:00).
 
 

ACCESO A FARO :

El acceso al Algarbe puede hacerse por la A-22 (peaje electrónico) o por la N-125. Junto al Casco antiguo hay un gran aparcamiento público, excepcional para la visita.

ACCESO PARA MINUSVÁLIDOS :

Con silla de ruedas puedes visitar las murallas de Faro (exterior), el Museo Arqueológico (dispone de rampa de acceso); pero no la catedral de Faro; mientras el yacimiento de Milreu es muy plano y no tiene especiales problemas de accesibilidad.

   

ACCESS TO FARO :

Access to the Algarve can be done through the A-22 (electronic toll) or the N-125. Next to the old town there is a large public car, exceptional for the visit.

ACCESS FOR THE HANDICAPPED :

With a wheelchair you can visit the walls of Faro (outside), the Archaeological Museum (it has an access ramp), but not the Cathedral of faro; while the Milreu site is very flat and does'nt present special problems of accessibility.
