ATALAYA DE HUERCAL-OVERA

INFORMACIÓN HISTORICO-ARTÍSTICA

La atalaya de Huercal-Overa es una torre de vigilancia de época nazarí, los muros eran de duro tapial, por las excavaciones ejecutadas sabemos que formó parte de un dispositivo defensivo más grande, con murallas y otras torres; la torre tenia 3 plantas abovedadas, junto al muro oeste la atalaya tenia un aljibe semi-subterráneo, conservándose aun las bóvedas de ladrillo; la torre fuevrestaurada.

The watchtower of Huercal-Overa is a guard tower of Nasrid times, the walls were of tapial, by excavations executed we know that it was part of a greater defensive device, with walls and other towers; the tower had 3 nice vaulted floors, next to the west wall of the watchtower had a semi-subterranean cistern, still preserving the brick vaults; the tower has been recently restored.

CASTILLO DE CUEVAS DE ALMANZORA

INFORMACIÓN HISTORICO-ARTÍSTICA

El castillo del Marqués de los Vélez es una fortaleza del siglo XVI, construida por el Marqués de los Vélez, Don Pedro Fajardo, entre sus estructuras debemos de mencionar, la Casa de la Tercia, el Palacio del Marqués, el conocido como Anfiteatro, el Patio de Armas y la Torre de homenaje.

HORARIOS-ENTRADA

Horario de verano (16 de junio a15 de septiembre) de martes a sábado de 9:00 a 14:00, horario de otoño-invierno (justo con el cambio de hora) es de martes a viernes de 10:00 a 13:30 y de 16:00 a 19:00, el sábado es de 10:00 a 13:00 y de 16:00 a 19:00 y el domingo de 10:00 a 13:00 y el horario de primavera (con el cambio de hora) es de martes a viernes de 10:00 a 13:30 y de 17:00 a 20:00, el sábado es de 10:00 a 13:00 y de 17:00 a 20:00 y el domingo de 10:00 a 13:00.

CASTLE OF CUEVAS DE ALMANZORA

The castle of the Marquis of the Vélez is a fortress of the 16 th century, built by the Marquis of the Vélez, among its structures we must mention, the House of La Tercia, the Palace of the Marquis, the one known like Amphitheater, the Courtyard of arms and the Tribute tower (keep).

POBLADO DE FUENTE ÁLAMO – CUEVAS DE ALMANZORA

INFORMACIÓN HISTORICO-ARTÍSTICA

Sobre un cerro, tenemos la coexistencia de viviendas y sepulturas (cistas y pithoi) en el mismo espacio, como resulta muy habitual en los yacimientos argáricos, así como una interesante cisterna; junto con unas murallas de protección. Cronología de la Edad del Bronce con algunos elementos del periodo ibero-romano y medieval. Excavaciones arqueológicas por el arqueólogo Hermanfrid Schubart. Es Bien de Interés Cultural.

SITE OF FUENTE ÁLAMO – CUEVAS DE ALMANZORA

HISTORICAL-ARTISTIC INFORMATION

We have in a hill, a curious coexistence of houses and graves (cists and pithoi) in the same space, as is usual in Argaric sites, as well as a curious large cistern; also has protective walls of stone. Chronology of the Bronze Age with some elements of Iberian-Roman and medieval times. Archeology excavations by the German archaeologist Hermanfried Schubart. It is BIC (Well of cultural Interest).

NECRÓPOLIS DE BARIA VILLARICOS

INFORMACIÓN HISTORICO-ARTÍSTICA

En Baria tenemos unas 2.000 sepulturas identificadas. Todavía se conservan y son visitables algunos hipogeos excavados en la roca con dromos o pasillo de acceso y cámara rectangular. Cronología: la ciudad fue fundada en el siglo VIII a.C. por los fenicios en una colina apta como embarcadero, para el control de la exportación de los metales de la región; pero la crisis de los fenicios en el siglo VI a.C. le permiten independizarse de la metrópoli. El apogeo económico se sitúa entre los siglos V y III a.C., pero como colaboró con los cartagineses en la 2ª Guerra Púnica, los romanos la saquearon.

NECRÓPOLIS DE BARIA - VILLARICOS

HISTORICAL-ARTISTIC INFORMATION

We have about 2,000 graves identified. Some hypogeae excavated in the rock with dromos or access corridor and rectangular chamber still are preserved and are visitable. Chronology: the city was founded in the 8 th century BC. By the Phoenicians on a hill suitable as a pier, for the control of the export of the metals of the region; but the Phoenician crisis in the 6th c. BC; suppose the Independece against the metropolis. The economic apogee was between the 5th and the 3rd centuries BC, but as it collaborated with the Carthaginians in the 2nd Punic War, the Romans plundered it.

El castillo de Villaricos o “Torre de Cristal” es una torre de defensa y vigilancia costera, con planta de herradura, perfil en talud con una altura de unos 11 metros; fue edificada en el siglo XVIII, en tiempos de Carlos III.

The castle of Villaricos or “Torre de Cristal” is a tower of defense and coastal guard, with plan of horseshoe, profile in slope with a height of about 11 meters (36.8 ft); was built in the 18 th century, in the times of Carlos III.

ACCESO HUERCAL-OVERA

Tanto Huercal-Overa como Cuevas de Almanzora se ubican junto a la A-7 (tramo Almería-Murcia), la atalaya de Huercal-Overa es visible desde el pueblo, pero es de difícil acceso (sin cartelería); el castillo de Cueva de Almanzora se ubica en el mismo pueblo; Fuente Álamo se ubica en un cerro accesible por una pista que arranca en el PK 8 de la RM 322; para Villaricos hay que coger desde Cuevas de Almanzora la carretera de Vera - La Garrucha, ambos enclaves (fortín y necrópolis) se ubican a la entrada del pueblo, con cartelería.

ACCESO PARA MINUSVÁLIDOS

No es factible el acceso en silla de ruedas en la atalaya de Huercal-Overa y al poblado de Fuente Álamo; tampoco a la planta superior del castillo de Cuevas de Almanzora o del fortín de Villaricos, aunque podrás admirar el entorno exterior; Mientras la necrópolis de Villaricos si es factible, aunque el firme es muy irregular.

LOCATION HUERCAL-OVERA

Both Huercal-Overa and Cuevas de Almazora are located next to the A-7 (Almería-Murcia), the watchtower of Huercal-Overa is visible from the village, but is difficult to access (no signage); the castle of Cuevas de Almanzora is located in the same town; Fuente Álamo is located on a hill accessible by a track that starts at PK 8 of RM-322; for Villaricos you can take from Cuevas de Almanzora the road to Vera and La Garrucha, both sites (fort and necropolis) are located at the beginning of the town, with signage.

ACCESS FOR THE HANDICAPPED

Wheelchair access is not feasible at the Huercal-Overa watchtower and the settlement of Fuente Álamo. It isn't suitable for the upper floor of the castle of Cuevas de Almanzora or the watchtower of Villaricos; although you can admire the outside; while the necropolis of Villaricos is feasible, although the surface is very irregular.
