CASTILLO DE VÉLEZ BLANCO

INFORMACIÓN HISTORICO-ARTÍSTICA

Este castillo-palacio es un modelo clave de la arquitectura militar renacentista en España, en planta el castillo es poligonal, ejecutado en mampostería y sillería; en el centro sobresale la gran torre de homenaje de 25 m. de altura; dispone de troneras, poterna, puente levadizo etc…; destacando en el interior el famoso “Patio del Honor” una de las obras maestras del Renacimiento español que fue desmontado y trasladado en (1945) al Museo Metropolitano de Nueva York.

HORARIOS-ENTRADA

Horario de verano (abril-septiembre) de miércoles a domingo de 10:00 a 14:00 y de 17:00 a 20:00; el horario de invierno (octubre-marzo) es de miércoles a domingo de 10:00 a 14:00 y de 16:00 a 18:00.

ACCESO

Desde Almería y Murcia hay que coger la A-7 y en Puerto Lumbreras coger la A-91 y A-92N (que llega a Granada) y a la altura de Vélez Rubio coger la carretera que lleva directo a Vélez Blanco, saliéndose en la segunda salida para Vélez Blanco, que tiene acceso directo al castillo.

CASTLE OF VELEZ BLANCO

HISTORICAL-ARTISTIC INFORMATION

This caste-palace is a paradigmatic example of the Renaissance military architecture in Spain, in plan the castle is polygonal, executed in rubblework and ashlar masonry; in the center stands the large tribute tower of 25 meters (82 ft) height; has arrow-loops, potern, drawbridge etc...; highlighting inside the famous “Courtyard of the Honor” one of the masterpieces of Spanish Renaissance that was dismantled and tranferred in (1945) to the Metropolitan Museum of New York.

TICKETS AND TIMETABLE

Summer timetable (April-September) from Wednesday to Sunday from 10 to 2 and from 5 to 8. The winter timetable (October-March) is from Wednesday to Sunday from 10 to 2 and from 4 to 6.

LOCATION

From Almeria and Murcia you have to take the A-7 and in Puerto Lumbreras take the A-91 and A-92N (that arrives to Granada) and at the height of Velez Rubio take the road that goes straight to Vélez Blanco, take the second exit for Vélez Blanco, which has straight access to the castle.

INFORMACIÓN HISTORICO-ARTÍSTICA

Magnífica estación de arte rupestre. Abrigo de 25 m. de ancho, 10 m. de alto y 6 de profundidad. Con dibujos esquemáticos de color rojo y marrón de figuras humanas, , cuadrúpedos, signos astronómicos y pájaros. Cronología del Neolítico (5000-3000 a.C.) al Calcolítico (3.000-2.000 a.C.)

HORARIOS-ENTRADA

Horario de verano (abril-septiembre) es de miércoles a domingo de 10:00-14:00 y de 17:00-20:00 y el horario de invierno (octubre-marzo) es de miércoles a domingo de 10:00-14:00 y de 16:00-18:00, cerrado lunes y martes. Entrada general 2€, y entradas reducidas variadas.

ACCESO

Acceso por a la A-92N (Granada-Murcia), donde se ubica Vélez Rubio; el yacimiento esta indicado, a 3 kilómetros del pueblo.

Magnificent rock art station. Shelter of 25 m. (82 ft) wide, 10 m (32 ft) high and 6 m (19 ft) deep. With schematic drawings of red and brown of human figures, birds, quadrupeds and astronomical signs. Chronology of Neolithic (5,000 – 3,000 BC) to Chalcolithic (3,000 – 2,000 BC).
