IGLESIAS MUDEJARES DE AREVALO

INFORMACIÓN HISTÓRICO-ARTÍSTICA

Podemos mencionar las iglesias de Santo Domingo que es románico-mudéjar con torre barroca. La iglesia de San Martín data de los siglos XIII-XIV, conserva una original galería porticada de estilo románico, dispone de dos torres gemelas, la más vieja es la más baja llamada “de los Ajedreces”.

La iglesia de Santa María la Mayor es de estilo románico-mudéjar, en el interior tiene interesantes pinturas murales con el Pantocrátor románico, un curioso pasadizo pasa bajo su torre. Por último, la iglesia de S. Miguel es románico-mudéjar, destacando la gama decorativa del ladrillo.

CHURCHES OF AREVALO

HISTORICAL-ARTISTIC INFORMATION

We can mention the churches of Santo Domingo that is Romanesque-Mudejar with Baroque tower. The church of San Martín dates from the 13 th -14 th centuries, it conserves an original porticoed gallery of Romanesque style, it has 2 twin towers, the oldest one is the lower called “De los ajedreces” (Of the Chess).

The church of Santa María la Mayor is a Romanesque-Mudejar style temple, have inside nice and interesting murals with the Romanesque Pantocrator, a curious passage passes under its tower. Finally the church of San Miguel is Romanesque-Mudejar, stand out the decorative range of brick.

ENTRADAS Y HORARIOS

La iglesia de San Martín de Arévalo abre de miércoles a jueves (12:00-14:00), de viernes a sábado (11:00-14:00 y de 16:00-19:00), festivos y domingo (11:00-14:00). Entrada gratuita.

En la Oficina de Turismo (junto al arco de Alcocer, teléfono 920.301.380) y en el Museo de Historia (junto a la iglesia de Santa María) puedes concertar una visita guiada (los pases suelen ser a las 11:00 y 12:30 y algunos días también por la tarde a las 16:30 y 17:30, pero al cambiar con frecuencia es mejor que te informes por el teléfono que te dejamos.

El horario de la Oficia de Turismo es de martes a sábado de 10:00-14:00 y de 16:30-19:00 y el domingo de 11:00-14:00, lunes cerrado. Los pases de visita valen 1 € (una iglesia), 3€ (4 iglesias), visitándose Santa María, San Miguel, San Juan y San Salvador.

TICKETS AND TIMETABLE

S. Martín de Arévalo is open Wednesday to Thursday (12 – 2 pm) from Friday to Saturday (11 – 2 pm and 4 – 7 pm), public holidays and Sunday (11 – 2 pm). Admission is free.

In Tourist Office (Arc of Alcocer, 920.301.380) and in the Museum of History (next to church of Sª Maria), you can arrange a guided tour (the passes are usually at 11 am and 12,30 pm and some days also in the afternoon at 4,30 pm and 5,30 pm; but like timetable change frequently it is better that you inform you in this phone that we leave you.

The office time is from Tuesday to Saturday from 10 am to 2 pm and 4,30 pm – 7 pm and Sunday from 11 am – 2 pm; closed Mondays. Visiting passes are worth € 1 (one church), € 3 (4 churches), visiting Santa Maria, San Miguel, San Juan and San Salvador.

ACCESO - MORAÑA

Acceso por el norte de Ávila por la N-403 y por la A-6. Lo ideal es aparcar en torno a la zona de la plaza de Fray Juan Gil (reconocible por su pequeña gasolinera).

El casco histórico es pequeño y encontraras las iglesias fácilmente, el castillo se ubica en la parte alta de la ciudad.

Para La Lugareja, coger la AV-P-116, (dirección Palacio Rubios – Noharre) está a 2 Km. de Arévalo.

ACCESO A MINUSVÁLIDOS

Para sillas de ruedas las iglesias no plantean problemas.

El castillo de Arévalo es complicado de visitar con silla de ruedas hay varios niveles.

En La Lugareja el acceso es factible, solo tiene un escalón a la entrada.

LOCATION - MORAÑA

Access to the north of Ávila on the N-403 and A-6. The ideal is to park around the area of the square of Fray Juan Gil (recognizable because is has a small gas station).

The historic center is small and you'll find the churches easily, the castle is located in the upper part of the town.

For La Lugareja, take the AV-P-116 (direction Palacio Rubios – Noharre) is 2 Km. (1,24 miles), from Arévalo.

ACCESS FOR THE HANDICAPPED

For wheelchairs users, churches don't suppose a problem.

The castle of Arévalo is difficult to visit with a wheelchair if you want to access other plants in the keep.

For La Lugareja access feasible, only has a step at the entrance.

CASTILLO DE AREVALO

El castillo es una construcción mudéjar de ladrillo, de planta pentagonal; torre de homenaje y torres esquineras, murallas, almenas y saeteras. Cronología del siglo XIV, con reformas de los siglos XV y XVI.

ENTRADAS Y HORARIOS

El castillo de Arévalo abre en verano (junio-septiembre) de viernes a domingo y festivos de 10:00-20:00 y en invierno (octubre-mayo) de sábados a domingo y festivos de 10:00-18:00. Entrada general 3€, hay entradas reducidas para las familias numerosas, jubilados, desempleados, discapacitados, estudiantes y menores.

CASTLE OF AREVALO

The castle is a Mudéjar building of brick, of a pentagonal plant; with keep, watchtowers in the corners, walls, battlements and arrow-loops. Chronology of the 14 th century, with reforms of the 15 th and 16 th century.

TICKETS AND TIMETABLE

Arévalo castle opens in summer (June-September) from Friday to Sunday and holidays from 10 am – 8 pm and in winter (October-May) from Saturday to Sunday and holidays from 10 am to 6 pm. General admission € 3, there are reduced tickets for large families, retirees, unemployed, disabled, students and minors.

LA LUGAREJA DE AREVALO

La Lugareja es un edificio singular con largas arquerías de ladrillo y una alta cúpula de doble cuerpo copiando el estilo de los cimborrios de Salamanca y Toro.

ENTRADAS Y HORARIOS

A la Lugareja (propiedad privada), solo se puede acceder los miércoles de 13:00-15:00, acceso gratuito.

CHURCH OF LA LUGAREJA (AREVALO)

La Lugareja completes the set of churches, is a unique building with long brick arches and a high dome double body coping the style of the dome of Salamanca and Toro.

MADRIGAL DE LAS ALTAS TORRES

INFORMACIÓN HISTÓRICO-ARTÍSTICA

Además de ser la villa donde nació Isabel la Católica, es un pueblo con una bella muralla mudéjar. Tenía 80 torres, hoy solo 23. La muralla midió unos 2.300 m., incluso tenia foso. Cronología con origen en el siglo XI, pero domina la obra del siglo XIII. La puerta de Cantalapiedra es quizás la más compleja e interesante. También tiene las iglesias de San Nicolás de Bari y la iglesia de Santa María del Castillo; San Nicolás de Bari conserva la pila bautismal en la que fue bautizada Isabel la Católica. También destacamos el palacio de Juan II, la sinagoga y el Hospital de la Concepción.

El horario de la iglesia de San Nicolás de Bari en verano (16 julio a 16 septiembre) es de martes a domingo de 12:00-14:00 y de 17:00-19:00, el precio de la entrada es de 2€.

MADRIGAL DE LAS ALTAS TORRES

HISTORICAL-ARTISTIC INFORMATION

In addition to be the town where Isabel la Católica was born, it is a town with a beautiful Mudejar wall. Had 80 towers, but only preserve 23.
