MUSEO VISIGÓTICO, (BEJA)

El Museo visigótico de Beja, se ubica en la antigua iglesia de San Amaro, curiosamente, el edificio tiene sus orígenes en un edificio visigótico del siglo VI d.C., pero el edificio actual es una mezcla de estilos con elementos góticos y barrocos.

VISITA : Horario de martes a domingo (Lunes cerrado) de 9:45 a 12:30 y de 14:00 a 17:00.

VISIGOTH MUSEUM (BEJA)

Visigothic Museum of Beja, is located in the old church of San Amaro, curiously the building has its origins in a Visigothic building from the 6th century A.D., but the current building is a mixture of styles with Gothic and Baroque elements.

VISIT : Opening hours from Tuesday (Monday closed) from 9:45 to 12:30 and from 14:00 to 17:00 pm.

CASTELO (BEJA)

Sobre un antiguo fortín de época romana, se erigió un castillo medieval en el siglo XIII, quizás hacia el reinado de D. Dinis. Tiene planta pentagonal, torres cuadradas, de las que sobresale la torre de homenaje de 42 m. de altura, en el patio de armas se ubicaba la casa del Gobernador.

VISITA : El horario de verano (Abril-Octubre) es de 9:30-12:00 y 14:00-17:30; el horario de invierno (Noviembre-Marzo) es de 9:30-12:00 y de 14:00-16:30.

CASTLE (BEJA)

On an old fortress of Roman times, a medieval castle was erected in the 13th century, perhaps towards the reign of D. Donis, It has a pentagonal plan, square towers, one with 42 meters (138 ft) of height, in the yard of arms the house of the Governor was located.

VISIT : Summer opening hours (April-October) is from 9:30-12:00 and 14:00-17:30; the winter time (November-March) is from 9:30-12:00 and from 14:00-16:30.

MURALLAS (BEJA)

Las murallas medievales de Beja datan del siglo XIII, forman un formidable conjunto amurallado, con torres cuadradas de esquinas de sillería y muros de sillarejo, aun conserva las almenas.

WALLS (BEJA)

The medieval walls of Beja date from the 13th century, form a formidable walled complex, with square towers of ashlar corners and walls of masonry, still preserve the battlements.

CATEDRAL-SE (BEJA)

La catedral de Beja se data en el siglo XVI, con elementos de estilo manierista y barroco; esta dedicada al apóstol Santiago, en el interior se pueden admirar el trabajo de Joao Fonseca (escultor) y André Reinoso (pintor), hay que destacar la Capilla de Nuestra Señora de la Concepción con bonitos azulejos azules del siglo XVIII.

CATHEDRAL-SE (BEJA)

The Beja Cathedral dayes back to the 16th century, with elements of Mannierist and Baroque style, is dedicated to the apostle Santiago, inside you can admire the work of Joao Fonseca (sculptor) and André Reinoso (painter), we must highlight the chapel of Nossa Senhora da Concepçao with beautiful blue tiles of the 18th century.

IGLESIA DE LA MISERICORDIA, (BEJA)

La iglesia de la Misericordia es un bello edificio del siglo XVI, de gran clasicismo, y que suele adjudicarse al estilo Renacentista, la fachada con 3 arcos de medio punto, con aparejo de sillería nos recuerda la estética florentina de los palacios italianos.

CHURCH OF MIERICORDIA (BEJA)

The church of Miericordia is a beautiful building from the 16th century of great classicism and often attributed to the Renaissance style, the facade with 3 arches, with ashlar stones remind us of the Florentine aesthetic of the Italian palaces.

RUINAS S. CUCUFATE (VIDIGUEIRA)

Las ruinas romanas de Sao Cucufate son un excepcional testimonio de la presencia romana en Portugal, datan del siglo IV. Conserva estructuras abovedadas de ladrillo, así como un conjunto termal.

VISITA : Horario de miércoles a domingo de 9:00-12:00 y de 14:00-17:00 y el martes de 14:30 a 17:00, cerrado el Lunes, entrada 2€.

REMAINS S. CUCUFATE (VIDIGUEIRA)

The Roman ruins of Sao Cucufate are an exceptional testimony of the Roman presence in Portugal, dating from the 4th century. It preserves vaulted brick structures, as well as a thermal complex.

VISIT : Opening hours from Wednesday-Sunday from 9:00-12:00 and from 14:00-17:00 pm and Tuesday from 14:30-17:00 pm closed on Monday, entry 2€.

ACCESO A BEJA : No es difícil acceder a Beja, capital del Baixo Alentejo, bien desde la IP2 (Évora-Ourique) o desde Lisboa (IC1 y IP8) o desde la frontera española desde Rosal de la Frontera (Huelva) por la IP8.

Para Sao Cucufate hay que ir a Vidigueira entre Évora y Beja en la IP2 y después dirección Villa de Frades, hay suficientes carteles.

ACCESO PARA MINUSVÁLIDOS : Con silla de ruedas podrás entrar en la catedral, pero no en los demás monumentos, que solo podrás admirar el exterior. El acceso a las ruinas de Sao Cucufate es factible, pero se recomienda ayuda.

ACCESS TO BEJA : it isn't difficult to access Beja, capital of Baixo Alentejo, from IP” (Évora-Ourque) of from Lisbon (IC1 and IP8) or from the Spanish border from Rosal de la Frontera (Huelva) by IP8.

For Sao Cucufate you have to go to Vidigueira between Évora and Beja on IP2 and then go to Villa de Frades, there are enough signs.

ACCESS FOR THE HANDICAPPED : With a wheelchair you can enter the cathedral, but not to other monuments, which you can only admire outside. Access to the ruins of Sao Cucufate is feasible, but help is recommended.
