ARCO DE LA CARCEL – LERMA

El arco de la cárcel de Lerma, es la puerta principal de entrada al casco histórico, por un acceso que tenia la muralla, consta de 2 gruesos torreones de sillería, el acceso interior se realiza por escaleras de caracol; mientras el cuerpo superior se construyó en ladrillo en el siglo XVII, para que sirviera de cárcel.

ARCH OF THE PRISON – LERMA

The arch of the prison of Lerma, is the main entrance to the historic center, by an access that had the wall, consists of 2 thcik towers of ashlar masonry, the insise access is made by spiral staircases; while the upper body was built in brick in the 17 th century to serve as a prison.

COLEGIATA DE S. PEDRO – LERMA

La colegiata de San Pedro de Lerma es un edificio del siglo XVII, es un templo monumental de 3 naves, en el interior sobresale el sepulcro de bronce de Cristóbal de Rojas y Sandoval y los 2 fabulosos órganos del siglo XVII; el emblema papal es omnipresente, pues el duque de Lerma consiguió que la abadía dependiera directamente de Roma.

VISITA: Horario de 10:00 a 14:00 y de 16:00 a 19:00; en invierno el lunes esta cerrada.

COLLEGIATE OF SAN PEDRO – LERMA

The collegiate church of San Pedro de Lerma is a building of the 17th century, is a monumental temple with 3 naves, incide stands the bronze tomb of Cristóbal de Rojas and Sandoval and the 2 fabulous organs of the 17th century; the Pope emblem is omnipresent, because the Duke of Lerma got the abbey directly dependent on Rome.

VISIT: Timetable from 10 am to 2 pm and from 4 pm to 7 pm in winter, Monday is closed.

MONASTERIO DE LA ASCENSIÓN – LERMA

El monasterio de la Ascensión, data del siglo XVII, se ubica en la famosa plaza de Santa Clara, donde se ubica la tumba del conocido guerrillero español de la Guerra de la Independencia, el Cura Merino; en un sector de la plaza se ubica el mirador de los arcos que abre la plaza al río Arlanza. El monasterio alberga obras de artistas como Gregorio Fernández y Bartolomé Carducho.

MONASTERY OF LA ASCENSIÓN – LERMA

The Monastery of La Ascensión, dating from the 17th century, is located in the famous Santa Clara Square, where the tomb of the well-known Spanish guerrilla of the War of Independence, The Merino Cure, is located; in one sector of the square is located the viewpoint of the arches that opens the plaza to the Arlanza river. The monastery houses works by artists such as Gregorio Fernández and Bartolomé Carducho.

PALACIO DUCAL DE LERMA

El palacio ducal de Lerma se ubica en la plaza mayor, una de las más grandes de España, data del siglo XVII, este palacio es de estilo herreriano, sigue las líneas de El Escorial y sustituyo a un antiguo castillo de época medieval, es obra del arquitecto Francisco de Mora. Entre el palacio y la colegiata hay un pasadizo visitable; usado por reyes y duques para ir a las misas sin pasar por la calle. Hoy en día es Parador Nacional de turismo.

DUCAL PALACE OF LERMA

The ducal palace of Lerma is located in the main square, one of the largest in Spain, fates from the 17 th century, this palace is Herrrerian style, follows the lines of El Escorial and replaced an old medieval castle, is work of the architect Francisco de Mora. Between the palace and the collegiate church there is a visitable passageway, used by kings and dukes to go to masses without going through the street. Nowadays, it is a National Tourism Parador.

CONVENTO DE LAS DOMINICAS - LERMA

El Convento de San Blas o de las Monjas dominicas se ubica junto al palacio ducal, en una plazoleta, data también del siglo XVII, tiene una fachada muy clásica, 2 pilastras enmarcan el conjunto, con frontón triangular coronando la fachada y 2 grandes escudos y la escultura del santo patrón.

CONVENT OF THE DOMINICANS – LERMA

The convent of San Blas or the Dominican Nuns is located next to the ducal palace, in a square, also dates from the 17 th century, has a very classic facade, 2 pilasters frame the whole, with triangular pediment crowning the facade and 2 large shields and the sculpture of the patron saint.

		ACCESO A LERMA : Acceder a Lerma es fácil, se encuentra en la A-1, carretera que une Madrid y Burgos. ACCESO PARA MINUSVÁLIDOS: Lerma es accesible para sillas de ruedas, obviamente no es factible subir a plantas elevadas (Palacio y arco de la cárcel). Todas las iglesias tienen algún escalón, salvo en el monasterio de la Ascensión donde hemos visto una rampa. Debes considerar que la calle Mayor (arco cárcel – Palacio) es una larga cuesta.				ACCESS TO LERMA Access to Lerma is easy, it is on the A-1, the road between Madrid and Burgos. ACCESS FOR THE HANDICAPPED Lerma is feasible for wheelchairs, obviously it isn't feasibley to go upstairs (Palace and arch of the prison). All the churches have some steps, except in the monastery of La Ascensión where we have seen a ramp. You should consider that the Main street (Prison arch – Palace) is a long slope
