IGLESIA DE STA. Mª LA MAYOR, MEDINA SIDONIA

INFORMACIÓN HISTORICO-ARTÍSTICA

La iglesia de Santa María la Mayor, la Coronada, es un templo gótico-renacentista edificado entre los siglos XVI y XVII, se edifico sobre una antigua mezquita; la portada principal es de estilo herreriano, en la que sobresalen las esculturas de la virgen de San Pedro y San Pablo ejecutadas en mármol de Carrara; dentro la puerta del claustro es plateresca, con la imagen de la virgen de alabastro; en la iglesia el retablo mayor es una obra plateresca, tiene imágenes de la vida de Cristo y de la Virgen.

HORARIOS-ENTRADA

El horario de verano es de 11:00-14:00 y 17:00-20:00. El precio de la entrada es de 2,5€.

HISTORICAL-ARTISTIC INFORMATION

The church of Santa María la Mayor, La Coronada, is a Gothic-Renaissance temple built between the 16 th and 17 th centuries, was built on an old mosque; the main doorway is Herrerian style, in which stand out the sculptures of the Virgin, Saint Peter and Saint Paul made in Carrara marble; inside the door of the cloister is Plateresque, with the image of the virgin of alabaster; in the church the main altarpiece is a Plateresque work, it has images of the life of Christ and the Virgin.

Summer opening time is from 11 am to 2 pm and from 5 pm to 8 pm. The rate is € 2,50.

MURALLA-PUERTAS DE MEDINA SIDONIA

Existen en Medina Sidonia restos de las murallas andalusíes y arcos de herradura de aquella época. De las 4 puertas que tuvo Medina Sidonia hoy solo se conservan 3 (la del Sol, la de la Pastora y la de Belén).

OTROS ENCLAVES

También es muy interesante el yacimiento ubicado en el Cerro del Castillo, junto a la Iglesia de Santa Maria la Mayor, en este cerro se han encontrado restos prerromanos.
