Arcos de la Frontera: Monumentos y turismo


		ARCOS-GENERAL: Es la localidad más importante de la Sierra de Cádiz, está encaramada a un cerro junto al río Guadalete. Sus miradores son preciosos, siendo el primer pueblo de la Ruta de Pueblos Blancos de la sierra gaditana. Sus monumentos y su caserío han permitido su declaración como Conjunto Histórico-Artístico, destacamos la iglesia de Santa María, la iglesia de San Pedro, la iglesia de la Encarnación, la iglesia de la Merced, el castillo de Arcos y el palacio del Conde del Águila. ARCOS-HISTORIA: Hay restos arqueológicos de diversos periodos. Los romanos la llamaron colonia Arcensium. En tiempos de los musulmanes, Arkos se doto de una importante muralla. En (1264) Alfonso X conquisto Arcos para la corona de Castilla, más tarde en el s XVI asistimos a una actividad constructiva muy notable (hospital, conventos…). Esta bonita localidad tiene rincones preciosos que esperan a que los descubras. Its viewpoints are beautiful, being the first town on the Ruta de los Pueblos Blancos in the mountains of Cadiz. ARCOS-HISTORY: Archaeological remains from several periods have been found in the municipality. The Romans called it Colony Arcensium. In Muslim times, Arkos was endowed with an important wall. In (1264) the king Alfonso X conquered the locality of Arcos for the crown of Castile, later in the 16 th century we witness a very notable building activity (hospital, convents…). This beautiful locality has beautiful corners waiting for you to discover then.


		ARCOS : La carretera de acceso a la sierra de Cádiz arranca en Jerez de la Frontera es la A-382 (desde la AP-4 se puede acceder por la salida 78), acabando actualmente en Arcos de la Frontera. La salida 24 es la más recomendable para acceder. 		ARCOS : En la localidad hay poco aparcamiento, no es recomendable adentrarse mucho. Hay aparcamiento de pago (P1) y si te retiras unos 300 m. más aparcamiento gratis. Vernur colabora con muchos ayuntamientos en la regulación del tráfico de sus municipios, evitando colapsar algunas zonas, lo que provocaría “Turismofobia”, facilitando a la vez el acceso del visitante tanto al aparcamiento como a los centros históricos. 		ARCOS : En esta visita podemos admirar en la parte alta de la ciudad, la iglesia de Santa María, la iglesia de San Pedro, la iglesia de la Encarnación, la iglesia de la Merced, el castillo de Arcos y el palacio del Conde del Águila. La distancia máxima en los extremos de esta visita es 500 m. La visita se desarrolla por un espacio de fuerte desnivel. El entorno natural es muy bonito e interesante e invita a conocerlo con rutas de senderismo. Vernur recomienda que no olvides llevar calzado cómodo y confortable, ropa acorde al clima, un buen sombrero y no olvides hidratarte. 		ARCOS : En cuanto al firme tenemos (caminos de piedra y cemento). Pavimento recio y compacto. Respecto al desnivel es una zona plana. No hay bordillos en las aceras (centro). La calle principal de Arcos de la Frontera es una larga cuesta, por ello con silla de ruedas es preciso ayuda adicional, casi todos los monumentos solo se pueden visitar por el exterior pues son propiedades privadas (Castillo, La Merced, La Encarnación y el Palacio), mientras una escalinata impide el acceso a la iglesia de San Pedro y a la de Santa María (un escalón). La tecnología de las sillas de ruedas ha avanzado mucho, cada vez más ligeras, hay modelos plegables, con todo tipo de adaptaciones, trata de conseguir una moderna, incluso hay ciudades donde se pueden alquilar, contacta con nosotros para añadir información. The main street of Arcos de la Frontera is a long slope, therefore wheelchair users requires additional help, almost all monuments can only be visited from the outside as they are private properties (Castle, La Merced, La Encarnación and the Palace), while a staircase prevents access to the church of San Pedro and Santa María (one step). 		ARCOS: Un lugar muy agradable que visitar es la playa artificial del Santiscal, además de baño, hay club náutico, aparcamiento, restaurante y punto de observación de aves. La iglesia de Santa María de la Asunción es una iglesia que comenzó a construirse en el siglo XIV y tiene estilos muy variados: Mudéjar, Gótico, Renacimiento y Barroco. Por ejemplo la portada de Santa María es gótica, las bóvedas de la Capilla Mayor, la sacristía y el presbiterio son Renacentistas; la fachada de la epístola y su torre es Barroca.

El castillo de Arcos de la Frontera es un castillo de origen árabe (siglo XI, época Taifa), que paso a ser la residencia de los duques de Arcos, tiene al menos 3 torres almenadas rodeadas de viviendas y ha sufrido diversas restauraciones en los siglos XVII y XVIII; en la entrada podemos ver el escudo de los duques de Arcos.

El Convento de La Merced de Arcos de la Frontera, es un edificio del siglo XV, restaurado en los siglos posteriores, hoy en día es el último convento de clausura de Arcos de la Frontera, pertenece a la Orden de las Mercedarias Descalzas.

La fachada principal es de estilo barroco, con torre central, azulejos y frontón roto.
