PLAZA MAYOR (ALMAGRO)

La llegada de los Fugger (banqueros alemanes) supone en el siglo XVI un fuerte cambio arquitectónico en esta localidad manchega. La Plaza Mayor de Almagro alberga un armonioso conjunto de viviendas con galerías acristaladas, creando unos soportales con columnas de orden toscano; además debemos pasarnos por el Corral de Comedias, una estructura única donde se representaban actos teatrales en el siglo XVII.

VISITA : El horario del Corral de Comedias es de lunes a domingo de 10:00-14:00 y de 17:00-20:00 (en verano el horario es de 10:00-14:00 y de 18:00-21:00).

ACCESIBILIDAD : Almagro se ubica a poco más de 10 Km. de Ciudad Real. Visita factible para sillas de ruedas.

MAYOR SQUARE (ALMAGRO)

The Fuggers' arrival (German bankers) is in the 16 th century a strong architectural change in this town of La Mancha. The Plaza Mayor of Almagro houses a harmonious group of houses with glazed galleries, creating arcades with columns of Tuscan order; we must also go through the Corral de Comedias, a unique structure where theater acts were performed in the 17 th century.

VISIT : The Corral de Comedias timetable is from Monday to Sunday from 10:00 am to 14:00 pm and from 17:00-20:00 pm (in summer the hours are from 10:00-14:00 and 18:00-21:00).

ACCESSIBILITY : Almagro is located just over 10 Km from Ciudad Real. Practical visit for wheelchairs.

		CASTILLO DE CALATRAVA LA VIEJA (CARRIÓN DE CALATRAVA) INFORMACIÓN HISTÓRICO-ARTÍSTICA Tenemos un formidable sistema de murallas de 1500 metros de perímetro, con 44 torres, torres albarranas, con torres corachas para aprovisionarse de agua, 2 accesos en recodo; con un foso de hasta 10 metros de profundidad, que nos hablan de una autentica fortaleza. Cronología, los primeros muros pueden datarse en los ss. VIII y IX (corachas, muralla, foso, torres pentagonales), pero otras edificaciones son de los siglos XII (torres albarranas, ábside templario) y de los siglos XIII-XIV (Iglesia y dependencias de la Encomienda de Calatrava). ACCESO PARA MINUSVÁLIDOS No apto para sillas de ruedas.				CASTLE OF CALATRAVA LA VIEJA (CARRIÓN DE CALATRAVA) HISTORICAL-ARTISTIC INFORMATION We have a formidable system of walls of 1.500 meters (4.921 ft) perimeter, with 44 towers, advanced towers, with advanced-water towers to supply of water, 2 access in bend; with a moat up to 10 meters (32 ft) deep that speak of an authentic fortress. Chronology, the first walls can be dated in th 8 th and 9 th centuries (water advanced tower, wall, moat, pentagonal tower) but other buildings are from 12 th century (advanced towers, Templar apse) and from 13 th – 14 th centuries (church and rooms oh the Encomienda de Calatrava). ACCESO

Acceso desde Ciudad Real por la N-430 que va a Daimiel, desviándose por el pueblo de Carrión de Calatrava. El yacimiento esta al norte del pueblo a orillas del río Guadiana, primero hay que dirigirse a la carretera de Fernancaballero, para desviarse por un camino a mano izquierda que va al yacimiento.

General rate € 4, summer time (April-September) is from Friday to Sunday from 10 am to 2 pm and from 4 pm to 8 pm, while in the months of June to August you can visit in addition to Monday through Thursday from 10 am to 2,30 pm; the winter timetable (October-March) is from Friday to Sunday from 10,30 am to 2 pm and from 3,30 pm to 5,30.

LOCATION

Access from Ciudad Real by the N-430 that goes to Daimiel, take the road to Carrión de Calatrava. The site is on the north of the town, on the banks of the Guadiana River; first step you have to go to the Fernancaballero road, and take a road on the left, that goes to the site.

INFORMACIÓN HISTÓRICO-ARTÍSTICA

Tenemos estructuras defensivas, que responden a dos momentos el ibérico y el medieval. La zona ibérica muestra viviendas compartimentadas y rectangulares de zócalos de piedra, con calles enlosadas. También las murallas medievales son soberbias, la planta es más o menos cuadrangular, con una torre pentagonal y foso excavado. También tiene un Museo monográfico. La cronología es ibero-oretana (siglos VI-III a.C.) y medieval (siglos XII-XIII).

HISTORICAL-ARTISTIC INFORMATION

We have some defensive structures, which are dated at 2 moments the Iberian and the Medieval. The Iberian area of the site shows rectangular houses compartementalized, with stone foundations, with paved streets. Also Medieval walls are superb, the plant is more or less quadrangular, with a strong pentagonal tower and excavated moat. It also has a Monographic Museum. Chronology Iberian-Oretan (5 th – 3 rd centuries BC) and Medieval (12 th -13 th centuries).

		CASTILLO DE CALATRAVA LA NUEVA (ALDEA DEL REY) INFORMACIÓN HISTÓRICO-ARTÍSTICA Fortaleza con cuerpo de guardia, caballerizas, muralla con almenas, adaptada a la topografía del cerro. Es magnífica la Iglesia con su rosetón y piedras volcánicas; además de viviendas (convento y hospedería), hay tumbas. Datación de los siglos XII-XV (hay elementos del Bronce y visigodos en el subsuelo). ENTRADAS Y HORARIOS Propiedad privada. ACCESO Acceso desde Ciudad Real coger la CM-4111, hasta Calzada de Calatrava, allí coger la carretera que va a la Alameda, el castillo esta junto a la carretera; al otro lado de la misma esta el castillo de Salvatierra, en ruinas. ACCESO PARA MINUSVÁLIDOS Visita no apta para silla de ruedas (muchas escaleras y fuertes pendientes).				CASTLE OF CALATRAVA LA NUEVA (ALDEA DEL REY) HISTORICAL-ARTISTIC INFORMATION Fortress with guard corps, stables, wall with battlements, adapted to the topography of the hill. The church is wonderful with its rosette and volcanic stones; in addition to houses (convent and hostel), there are tombs. Dating in 12 th -15 th century (Bronze Age and Visigoth elements in subsoil). TICKETS AND TIMETABLE Private property LOCATION Access from Ciudad Real take the CM-4111, until Calzada de Calatrava, there take the road that goes to the Alameda, the castle is next the road; on the other side of it is the castle of Salvatierra, in ruins.
