NINFEO (VALERIA)

INFORMACIÓN HISTORICO-ARTÍSTICA

El ninfeo romano de Valeria, es una gran fuente monumental, el mayor ninfeo de la península ibérica, estaba alimentado por los aljibes subterráneos del foro, en su día estaba forrado de mármoles y decorado con bellas esculturas, contribuyendo a refrescar la temperatura de aquel sector de la ciudad.

HORARIOS- ENTRADA

Actualmente se cobra una entrada de 4€ Horario de Verano de lunes a domingo (10:30-14:00 y 17:30-20:30) y en Invierno de lunes a sábado (10:30-14:00 y 15:00-17:00) y domingos (10:00-15:00).

NINFEO (VALERIA)

HISTORICAL-ARTISTIC INFORMATION

The Roman nymph of Valeria, is a great monumental fountain, the largest nymph of the Iberian Peninsula, was fed by the underground cisterns of the forum, in the past it was lined with marbles and decorated with beautiful sculptures, contributing to cool the temperature of that place.

BASÍLICA (VALERIA)

La basílica de Valeria se encuentra en el sector norte, era un edificio monumental que se sostenía sobre gruesas columnas, de las que solo conservamos sus arranques, y que se dedicaba a la administración de justicia y comercio.

The basilica of Valeria is located in the northern sector, it was a monumental building that was supported on thick columns, of which we only conserve its foundations and that was dedicated to the administration of justice and commerce.

INFORMACIÓN HISTORICO-ARTÍSTICA

Son formidables los 4 aljibes de 30 x 4 m. que se ubican en el subsuelo del foro, por debajo del ninfeo se ubica un sector de tabernae, es decir una serie de tiendas dispuestas para el comercio, hay también viviendas rupestres como las celtibéricas, que pudieron estar “colgadas” sobre las hoces. No hay que olvidar las bellísimas panorámicas que pueden verse en los miradores de las hoces del río Gritos y del Zadorra.

The 4 cisters of 30x4 m (98x13 ft) are formidable, that are located in the subsoil of the forum, below the nymph is located a sector of tabernae, it a set of stores arranged for trade, there are also cave houses such as the Celtiberian, which could be “hung” on the gorge. Don't forget the beautifl landscapes that can be seen in the viewpoints of the gorges of the rivers Gritos and Zadorra.

CASTILLO-MURALLA (VALERIA)

INFORMACIÓN HISTORICO-ARTÍSTICA

En el cerro de Santa Catalina, puede verse los restos de una formidable construcción de sillarejo, era un simple lienzo de muralla con torres semicirculares, encerrando el poderoso espolón rocoso.

In the hill of Santa Catalina, you can see the remains of a formidable rubblework masonry building, it was a simple wall with semicircular towers, enclosing the powerful rocky hill.

ERMITA-NECRÓPOLIS (VALERIA)

INFORMACIÓN HISTORICO-ARTÍSTICA

En el cerro de Santa Catalina se ubica una ermita en ruinas, el complejo data de los siglos XII, la ermita es de una única nave y se construyó con sillarejo. Entorno a la ermita se dispuso una necrópolis, de la Baja Edad Media.

HERMITAGE-NECROPOLIS (VALERIA)

HISTORICAL-ARTISTIC INFORMATION

A ruined hermitage is located on the hill of Santa Catalina, the comples dates from the 12th centuries, the hermitage is a single nave and was built with ribblework masonry. Surrounding the hermitage was a necropolis, from the Late Middle Ages.

ACCESO

Acceso desde Cuenca, coger la nacional N-320 (dirección Motilla) y desviarse por la CM-2100, hacia Arcas, que conduce directo al yacimiento, indicado en la carretera.

LOCATION

Access from Cuenca, take the N-320 (direction Motilla) and turn off by the CM-2100, towards Arcas, which goes directly to the site, signposted on the road.
