IGLESIA S. FRANCISCO (PORTO)

INFORMACIÓN HISTORICO-ARTÍSTICA

La iglesia de San Francisco de Oporto, es un edificio con elementos de diversos estilos, como el románico, el gótico y el barroco, en el exterior sobresale el gran rosetón de la fachada y en el interior las tallas y dorados; curiosamente bajo su subsuelo se ubican las catacumbas de San Francisco, donde están enterrados muchos hermanos de la orden franciscana, además tenemos un osario con miles de huesos humanos.

S. FRANCISCO CHURCH (PORTO)

HISTORICAL-ARTISTIC INFORMATION

The church of San Francisco of Porto, is a building with elements of several styles, such as Romanesque, Gothic and Baroque, on the outside stands out the large rose window on the facade and inside the carvings and gilding; curiously under its subsoil are located the catacombs of San Franciso, where many brothers of Franciscan Order are buried, we also have an ossuary with thousands of human bones.

PUENTE DE LUIS I (PORTO)

El puente de Luis I sobre el río Duero, de Oporto es un edificio de fines del siglo XIX, obra del ingeniero belga Theophile Seyrig, lo que más llama la atención de este puente es el gigantesco arco de hierro; es Patrimonio de la Humanidad y uno de los iconos de Oporto.

LUIS I BRIDGE (PORTO)

The bridge of Luis I on the Douro River, of Oporto is a building of late 20 th century, work of the Belgian engineer Theophile Seyrig, we stand out in this bridge the gigantic iron arch; it is a World Heritage Site and one of the icons of Porto.

CATEDRAL (PORTO)

INFORMACIÓN HISTORICO-ARTÍSTICA

La Catedral o Se de Oporto es un edificio que se remonta al siglo XII, la fachada es románica, la capilla de San Juan Evangelista es de estilo gótico, también el claustro es gótico, se data en el siglo XIV; pero buena parte del edificio hoy en día es barroco; la nave central es muy sobria, salvo el altar mayor.

The Cathedral or Se of Porto is a building that dates back to the 12 th century, tha facade is Romanesque, the chapel of Sao Joao Evangelista is Gothic, the cloister is Gothic, it dates from the 14 th century; but a good part of the building today is baroque; the central nave is very sober, except for the main altar.

PALACIO DE LA BOLSA (PORTO)

El Palacio de la Bolsa de Oporto, es un bello edificio neoclásico, construido a mediados del siglo XIX, por el arquitecto Joaquim da Costa Lima; si en el exterior se aprecia una evidente monumentalidad, el interior sorprende por su espectacularidad, es impresionante la Sala Dorada cubierta de pan de oro, la Sala de las Asambleas Generales y la Sala Árabe (inspirada en la Alhambra).

PALACE OF LA BOLSA (PORTO)

The Palace of La Bolsa (Stock exchange) of Porto is a beautiful neoclassical building, built in the mid-19 th century, by the architect Joaquim da Costa Lima; if the outside shows an obvious monumentality, the inside surprises with its spectacularity; the Golden Hall covered with gold leaf, the General Assemblies Room and the Arab Room (inspired by the Alhambra) are amazing.

La iglesia de San Lorenzo dos Grilos es un edifico que se construyó entre los siglos XVI y XVIII, es sin duda la más austera de Oporto, en su interior destaca el Museo de Arte Sacro (orfebrería, talla y pintura).

The church of San Lorenzo dos Grilos is a building that was built btween the 16 th and 18 th centuries, is undoubtedly the most austere of Porto, inside highlights the Museum of Sacred Art (goldsmithing, carving and painting).

MURALLA (PORTO)

INFORMACIÓN HISTORICO-ARTÍSTICA

El conjunto de murallas de Oporto se compone de aportaciones de diversos periodos históricos, básicamente podemos hablar de 2 murallas; una es la “muralla primitiva” que en origen era de época romana del siglo III y que después fue reformada en época sueva y románica; la segunda muralla se conocen como “murallas fernandinas” y es básicamente una estructura gótica del siglo XIV. La muralla primitiva (encierra 4 ha) se puede ver bien en la zona de la Se, mientras la fernandina baja al río y engloba hasta 44,5 hectáreas.

WALLS (PORTO)

HISTORICAL-ARTISTIC INFORMATION

The set of walls of Porto is composed of contributions from several hictorical periods, basically we can talk about 2 walls; one is the “primitive wall” that was originally from the Roman period of the 3 rd century and that was later reformed in the Suevian and Romanesque period; the second wall is known as “Fernandina walls” and is basically a Gothic structure from the 14 th century. The primitive wall (encloses 4 Ha.) can be seen well in the area of the Se, while the Fernandina goes down to the river and enclose 44.5 hectares

With a wheelchair, visit the outside of the bridge of Luis I and the walls. Not feasible inside the Stock Exchange Palace (stairs), the church of San Francisco (stairs) to the church of San Lorenzo (stairs) and to the cathedral (stairs).
