AQUEDUCT OF TORRES VEDRAS

CASTELO DE TORRES VEDRAS

El castillo de Torres Vedras es de sillarejo, dispone de grandes merlones para colocar artillería. El edificio data del siglo XIII, fue mandado construir por el Rey Dinis; pero hay reformas posteriores las más importantes las del siglo XIX, cuando se realizaron obras para la creación de las “Líneas de Torres”, contra la invasión napoleónica; dentro del castillo destaca la iglesia de Santa María

CASTLE OF TORRES VEDRAS

HISTORICAL-ARTISTIC INFORMATION

The castle of Torres Vedras is made of rubblework, has great battlements to place artillery. The building dates from the 13 th century, was built by King Dinis; but there are later reforms the most important from 19 th century, when some works were done for made the “Lines of Towers”, against the Napoleonic invasion; inside the castle can also be admired the church of Santa María.

IGLESIA DE S. PEDRO – TORRES VEDRAS

INFORMACIÓN HISTÓRICO-ARTÍSTICA

La iglesia data del siglo XVI, dispone de fachada de estilo manuelino, con torre cuadrada; dentro en esta iglesia de 3 naves, puede verse un autentico viaje en el tiempo por la historia del azulejo en la edad Moderna de Portugal, con paneles del siglo XVI (verdes y blancos) del siglo XVII y del s XVIII.

CHURCH SÃO PEDRO – TORRES VEDRAS

The church dates from the 16 th century, has a Manueline style façade, with a square tower, inside this church of 3 naves, you can see an autenthic trip in in time for the history of the tile in the Modern Age of Portugal, with panels of the 16 th century (green and white) of the 17 th and 18 th century.

		IGLESIA DE SANTIAGO TORRES VEDRAS INFORMACIÓN HISTÓRICO-ARTÍSTICA La iglesia de Santiago se remonta al siglo XVI, aunque los cimientos son más antiguos, la fachada es de estilo manuelino, a un lado podemos admirar el campanario, del pasado medieval tiene la pila bautismal y una escalera de caracol; en el interior podemos admirar el pulpito de mármol del siglo XVII y un retablo de columnas salomónicas, del altar mayor. VEDRAS) HISTORICAL-ARTISTIC INFORMATION The church of São Tiago dates back to the 16 th century, although the foundations are older, the façade is Manueline style, on one side we can admire the bell tower, from Medieval past has a baptismal font and a spiral staircase; inside we can admire the marble pulpit of the 17 th century and an altarpiece of Salmon-shaped columns and the main altar. ACCESO A TORRES VEDRAS

ACCESO

Torres Vedras se encuentra entre Lisboa y Leiria, puedes acceder por la N-8 o por la A-8 (peaje manual), y los monumentos se concentran en el extremo norte de la ciudad.

Si accedes por la nacional N-9 desde Alenquer y Santarém, lo primero que verás será el acueducto, cruzaras el polígono industrial hasta el túnel del tren, donde comienza la ciudad, nada mas cruzarlo gira a la derecha y busca aparcamiento.

ACCESO PARA MINUSVÁLIDOS

Acceso factible al castelo de Torres Vedras (cuestas y empedrado a considerar) y a la iglesia de Santiago; pero no a la iglesia de Sao Pedro.

ACCESS TO TORRES VEDRAS

LOCATION

Torres Vedras is located between Lisbon and Leiria, you can access by the N-8 or the a-8 (manual toll); the monuments are concentrated in the northern area of the city.

If you enter by the N-9 from Alenquer and Santarem, the first thing you will see is the aqueduct, you cross the industrial estate until the train tunnel, where the city begins, just cross it turns to the right and look for parking.

ACCESS FOR THE HANDICAPPED

Possible access to the castle of Torres Vedras (slopes and paved to consider) and to the church of Santiago, but not to the church of São Pedro.

		CASTRO DE ZAMBUJAL INFORMACIÓN HISTÓRICO-ARTÍSTICA El castro de Zambujal, dispone de varios recintos y de torres redondeadas huecas, es una de las más antiguas fortalezas de la península ibérica, datada en el Calcolítico, con 4 recintos amurallados construidos en el tercer milenio antes de Cristo, durante al menos 5 fases cronológicas, dispone también de viviendas ovaladas; ha sido excavado por el Instituto Arqueológico Alemán (H. Schubart, M. Kunst) y otros arqueólogos alemanes como E. Sangmeister y Uerpmann. El yacimiento tiene un gran interés arqueológico no solo para Portugal o la Península , sino a escala internacional. Schubart, M. Kunst) and other German archaeologists such as E. Sangmeister and Uerpmann. The site has a great archaelogical interest not only for Portugal or the Iberian Peninsula, but internationally. ACCESO A ZAMBUJAL

ACCESO

El castro se sitúa a 5 Km. al oeste de Torres Vedras, donde tienes que coger la N-9, en dirección a Mafra y Ericeira, hasta que llegues a la glorieta de Pedrulhos y Ventosa donde ya hay señalización para el castro.

Saliendo de la N-9 la clave es ir todo recto hasta otra glorieta.

ACCESO PARA MINUSVÁLIDOS

En cuanto a Zambujal, aunque el firme es muy irregular, algunas estructuras son visitables para sillas de ruedas.

ACCESS TO ZAMBUJAL

LOCATION

The hillfort is located 5 Km (3.1 mi) west of Torres Vedras, where you have to take the N-9, towards Mafra and Ericeira, until you reach the roundabout of Pedrulhos and Ventosa, where there is alreay signaling for the hillfort.

Leaving the N-9, the key is to go straight to another roundabout.
