AYUNTAMIENTO DE SAN SEBASTIAN

El ayuntamiento de San Sebastián es un edificio inaugurado en el siglo XIX, en origen fue el Gran Casino de San Sebastián, pero desde (1947) paso a ser el ayuntamiento de la ciudad, es sin duda, el emblema icónico de esta ciudad vasca.

TOWN HALL OF SAN SEBASTIAN

The Town Hall of San Sebastian is a building inaugurated in the 19 th century, originally the Gran Casino of San Sebastian, but since (1947) it became the Town Hall of the city, it's undoubtedly the iconic emblem of this Basque city.

VISIT: External visit – It is accessible with wheelchair.

CASTILLO DE LA MOTA - DONOSTI

El Castillo de la Mota de San Sebastián, se ubica en el monte Urgull (orgullo en vasco), sus orígenes nos llevan al siglo XII, cuando Sancho el Mayor de Navarra, erigió aquí una primera muralla, después ha habido construcciones en el siglo XIII y XV, pero lo más notable es del siglo XVII, incluso tuvo un papel destacado en las guerras napoleónicas.

VISITA : Acceso libre – No factible para silla de ruedas (escaleras y rampas duras).

CASTLE OF LA MOTA – DONOSTI

The Castle of La Mota of San Sebastian, is located on the Mount Urgull (“pride” in Basque), its origins lead to the 12 century, when the king Sancho el Mayor of Navarre, erected here a first wall, then there have been buildings in the 13 th and 15 th centuries, but the most notable is the 17 th century, even had a prominent role in the Naploeonic Wars.

VISIT: Free access – Not feasible for wheelchairs (stairs and hard ramps).

MONUMENTO AL SAGRADO CORAZÓN

El Monumento al Sagrado Corazón de Jesús, de San Sebastián se ubica dentro del castillo de la Mota. Data de mediados del siglo XX, es obra del arquitecto Pedro Muguruza, el monumento se coloco sobre un podium de 10 x 8 metros, con una larga escalinata, con un pedestal tronco-piramidal de 13,6 m. de altura, donde se ubica la capilla, encima hay una base de 2,5 m. y la estatua de 12,5 m. que mira a la ciudad, la obra es de hormigón.

MONUMENT TO THE SACRED HEART

The monumento to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, of San Sebastian is located inside the castle of La Mota. Dating from the mid-20 th century, it is the work of architect Pedro Muguruza, the monument was palced on a podium of 10 x 8 m (32.8x26.2 ft) with a long staircase, with a trunk-pyramid pedestal of 13.6 m (44.6 ft) of height, where the chapel is located, on top there is abase of 2.5 m (8.2 ft) and the statue of 12.5 m (41 ft), that looks at the city, the work is of concrete.

CATEDRAL DE SAN SEBASTIAN

La catedral del Buen Pastor de San Sebastián es un bello edificio de estilo neogótico, típico del romanticismo del siglo XIX, la torre con 75 m. de altura es el edificio más elevado de San Sebastián, l a roca para su construcción procede de las canteras del mítico Monte Igueldo, sobresaliendo las gárgolas, pináculos, tracería; así como sus bonitas vidrieras.

VISITA : Horario de lunes a viernes de 8:30-12:30 y de 17:00-20:00, entrada gratuita.

CATHEDRAL OF S. SEBASTIAN

The cathedral of El Buen Pastor of San Sebastian is a beutiful neo-Gothic building, typical of the 19 th century, romanticism, the tower with 75 m. (246 ft) of height is the highest building of San Sebastian, the rock for its construction comes from the quarries of the mythical Monte Igueldo, standing out the gargoyles, pinnacles, tracery, as well as its beutiful stained glass windows.

VISIT: Timetable from Monday to Friday (8:30-12:20 and 5:00-8:00 pm) free admission.

EL KURSAAL DE S. SEBASTIAN

El Kursaal de San Sebastián, es un edificio moderno, destinado a Palacio de Congresos, donde se realizan multitud de eventos muy notables, la luz, los volúmenes y el mar son los elementos básicos de una joya de la arquitectura moderna, muy minimalista, son obra del arquitecto navarro Rafael Moneo.

THE KURSAAL OF S. SEBASTIAN

The Kursaal of San Sebastian, is a modern building, intended for the Palacio de Congresos, where many notable events take place, the light, the volumes and the sea are the basic elements of a modern architecture jewel, very minimalist work of the Navarrese architect Rafael Moneo.

MUSEO DE SAN TELMO

El Museo de San Telmo de San Sebastián, ocupa el espacio de un antiguo convento datado en el siglo XVI, las colecciones son de Historia, Bellas Artes y Arqueología, en concreto dispone de cuadros, esculturas, grabados, cerámica, monedas, medallas, etc…, que te permitirán conocer el pasado de la sociedad vasca.

VISITA : El horario es de martes a domingo (10:00-20:00), lunes cerrado. Entrada general 6€.

SAN TELMO MUSEUM - DONOSTI

The San Telmo Museum of San Sebastian, occupies the space of an old convent dated in the 16 th century, the collections are of History, Fine Arts and Archaeology, specifically has pictures, sculptures, prints, pottery, coins, medals, etc..., that will allow you to know the past of Basque society.

VISIT : The timetable is from Tuesday to Sunday (10:00-8:00), closed Monday. General rate €6.

IGLESIA DE Sª. MARIA

La iglesia de Santa María del Coro de San Sebastián, es un templo católico del siglo XVIII, obra de Pedro Ignacio de Lizardi, desde su fachada puede contemplarse la catedral del Buen pastor; en el interior destacan las bóvedas de crucería estrellada y los retablos barrocos.

VISITA : El horario es de lunes a domingo (10:15-13:15 y 16:15-19:45), hay conciertos de órgano. Tlf. 943.481.166.

CHURCH OF S. MARIA – DONOSTI

The church of Santa Maria del Coro of San Sebastian, is a catholic church of the 18 th century, work of Pedro Ignacio de Lizardi, from its facade can contemplate the cathedral of El Buen Pastor; inside they emphasize the ribbed starry vaults, and the baroque altarpieces.

VISIT : The timetable is from Monday to Sunday (10:15 – 1:15 and 4:15 – 7:45), there are organ concerts. Tlf. 943,481,166.

IGLESIA DE SAN VICENTE

La iglesia de San Vicente Eliza, de San Sebastián, es de estilo gótico, aunque se remonta al siglo XII (es el templo más antiguo de San Sebastián), la edificación se produce en los siglos XVI y XVII, el pórtico es barroco del siglo XVII y en el interior destacan las bóvedas de crucería, un órgano francés y bellas vidrieras.

VISITA: Horario de lunes a viernes de 9:30 – 13:30.

CHURCH OS SAN VICENTE ELIZA

The church of San Vicente Eliza, in San Sebastian, is Gothic style, although it dates back to the 12 th century (it is the oldest church in San Sebastian). The building was built in the 16 th and 17 th centuries, the portico is baroque of the 17 th centur and inside they emphasize the ribbed vaults, a French organ and beautiful stained glass window.

VISIT : Timetable Monday-Friday is 9:30 am – 1:30 pm.

ACCESO A DONOSTI : Desde Vitoria y Madrid se puede acceder por la A-1 y/o AP-1; desde Francia o Bilbao por la AP-8; existe una circunvalación muy práctica la GI-20, muy interesante para cruzar San Sebastián. Todos los monumentos tratados se ubican en la zona centro, junto al monte de San Telmo (ver mapa).

ACCESO PARA MINUSVÁLIDOS : Para algunos enclaves con escaleras solo podemos acercarnos a su entorno (Ayuntamiento, castillo de la Mota, Sagrado Corazón, Catedral) en otros solo se puede entrar si asistes como espectador (Kursaal) y en algunos el acceso es factible (iglesia de San Vicente, basílica de Santa María –rampa lateral-, Museo de San Telmo, con ascensor -80 cm.-).

ACCESS TO DONOSTI : From Vitoria and Madrid you can access by the A-1 and/or AP-1; from France and Bilbao by the AP-8; there is a very practical ring GI-20, very interesting to cross San Sebastián. All the treated monuments are located in the downtown area, next to the San Telmo mountain (see map).

ACCESS FOR HANDICAPPED : For some monuments with stairs we can only get close to their surroundings (City Hall, La Mota Castlle, Sacred Heart, Cathedral), in others you can only enter if you attend as spectator (Kursaal) and in some the access is feasible (church os San Vicente, basilica of Santa Maria – ramp side-, Museum of San Telmo –there are a lift of 80 cm-).
