MEZQUITA-CASTILLO (ALMONASTER LA REAL)

INFORMACIÓN HISTORICO-ARTÍSTICA

Tenemos restos que permiten ubicar el muro de qibla, con su mihrab, el patio para abluciones (shan) y el alminar que conserva los cimientos, en la nave central tenemos arcos de ladrillo soportados por toscos pilares rectangulares o columnas romanas reaprovechadas. Las obras de la iglesia de Nuestra Señora de los Dolores de época medieval daño buena parte de la mezquita. No menos interesante es el fortín almohade que fue capturado por los caballeros del Temple, que lo reconstruyeron. Cronología de califal (siglo X), se edifico en tiempos de Abd al-Rahman III, aunque existen vestigios de época romana y visigoda. La Iglesia de Nª. Sª. de los Dolores es del siglo XIII

MOSQUE AND CASTLE (ALMONASTER LA REAL)

HISTORICAL-ARTISTIC INFORMATION

We have remains that allow to locate the qibla wall, with its mihrab, the courtyard for ablutions (shan) and the minaret that preserves the foundations, in the central nave we have brick arches supported by rough rectangular pillars or reused Roman columns. The works of the church of Nuestra Señora de los Dolores of Medieval times damage good parte of the mosque. No less interesting is the almohad fort that was captured by the knights of the Temple, who rebuilt it. Chronology of Caliphate (10th century), was built in the time of Abd a-Rahman III, although there are vestiges of Roman and Visigoth times. The Church of Nuestra Señora de los Dolores is from 13th c.

Nª. Sª. DE LA ASUNCIÓN (AROCHE)

INFORMACIÓN HISTORICO-ARTÍSTICA

Es una iglesia edificada entre los siglos XIV y XVII, con elementos de estilo gótico, mudéjar y renacentista. Hay que admirar la Puerta de las Limosnas del siglo XIV, de estilo gótico y en el siglo XVI las bóvedas de estilo gótico final, en este momento se edificaron las fachadas norte (Puerta de las Flores) y sur (Puerta del Sol); del siglo XVII es el reloj de sol.

Nª. Sª. DE LA ASUNCIÓN (AROCHE)

HISTORICAL-ARTISTIC INFORMATION

It is a church built between the 14th and 17th c., with Gothic, Mudejar and Renaissance elements. It is necessary to admire the Door of Las Limosnas from 14 th century of Gothic style and in the 16 th century we emphasize the the vaults of Late Gothic style; in this moment the north façade (Door of the Flowers) and south façade (Door of the Sun) were constructed; from 17th c. is the sundial.

MURALLA (AROCHE)

La muralla de Aroche tiene orígenes en el siglo XV, pero el edificio actual es del siglo XVII, cuando fue reformado y adaptado para la Guerra con Portugal en (1640). Es un edificio de mampostería que se adapta a la topografía del terreno. Hoy en día pueden admirarse hasta 3 puertas, que tenían rastrillo.

WALLS (AROCHE)

The wall of Aroche has origins in the 15 th century, but the current building is from 17 th century, when it was reformed and adapted for the War against Portugal in (1640).It is a masonry building that adapts to the topography of the land. Today you can admire up to 3 doors, which had portcullis.

CONVENTO DE CILLA (AROCHE)

El convento de Cilla de Aroche es un edificio del siglo XVII, que perteneció a los Jerónimos, hoy en día se custodian colecciones arqueológicas y es centro de información turística.

VISITA : Horario de Verano (14 de Mayo a 30 de Septiembre) de miércoles a domingo (más festivos) de 10:30 a 15:00. Horario de Invierno (1 de Octubre a 14 de Mayo) de miércoles-jueves de 11:00-14:00 y viernes-domingos de 10:00-14:00 y 15:00-17:00.

   

CONVENT OF CILLA (AROCHE)

The convent of Cilla of Arocheys a 17 th century building, which belonged to the Jeronimos, nowadays archaeological collections are kept and it is a tourist information center.

VISIT : Summer time (May 14 to September 30) from Wednesday to Sunday (more holidays) is 10:30 - 15:00. Winter timetable (October to May 14) from Wedneday to Thursday from 11:00-14:00 and Friday-Sunday from 10:00-14:00 and 15:00-17:00.

 
 

SAN MAMED (AROCHE)

La ermita de San Mamed de Aroche se data entre los siglos XIII y XIV, es por tanto una iglesia de Repoblación, tiene reformas de los siglos XV y XVIII. El edificio reaprovecha materiales del cercano yacimiento de Turobriga.

VISITA : Horario de Verano (14 de Mayo a 30 de Septiembre) de martes a viernes de 9:00-15:00 y sábados-domingos (más festivo) de 10:30-15:00. Horario de Invierno (1 de Octubre a 14 de Mayo) de martes a jueves de 8:00-15:00 y de viernes a domingo de 11:00-17:00.

   

SAN MAMED (AROCHE)

The hermitage of San Lamed of Aroche is dated between 13 th and 14 th centuries, is is therefore a Repopulation church, it has reforms of the 15 th and 18 th centuries. The buildings reuse materials from the nearby Turobriga site.

VISIT : Summer timetable (May 14 to September 30) from Tuesday to Friday from 9:00-15:00 and Saturday-Sunday (and festive) from 10:30-15:00. Winter timetable (October-May) Tuesday through Thursday from 8:00-15:00 and Friday to Sunday 11:00-17:00.

 
 

TUROBRIGA (AROCHE)

En las ruinas de la antigua Turobriga sobresale el antiguo mercado (macellum). El enclave de Turobriga parece remontarse al Imperio de Augusto, además los investigadores han identificado una zona de termas y el foro.

VISITA : Horario de martes a viernes de 9:00-15:00 y sábados-domingos (más festivo) de 10:30-15:00.

   

TUROBRIGA (AROCHE)

In the ruins of the ancient Turobriga stands the old market (macellum). The site of Turobriga seems to go back to the Augustus's Empire, in addition the investigators have identified a zone of thermal baths and the forum.

VISIT : Timetable from Tuesday to Friday from 9:00 am to 15:00 pm and Saturday-Sunday (more festive) from 10:30 to 15:00.
 
 

ACCESO A AROCHE : El acceso a Aroche se realiza por la N-433 (Portugal-Sevilla), el acceso a San Mamed y a Turobriga se realiza por un camino situado junto a la Primera entrada (la más próxima a Cortegana), hay señalización. Los demás monumentos se encuentran en el centro histórico de Aroche.

ACCESO PARA MINUSVÁLIDOS : Con silla de ruedas no se puede acceder al Convento de Cilla (escalón en la entrada), a la iglesia de la Asunción (escalinata de acceso) y a la ermita de San Lamed (escalón de acceso).

La muralla se ubica entre las casas, pero las calles de Aroche son empinadas, con silla de ruedas necesitarás ayuda. Turobriga es un yacimiento grande pero muy cuidado y accesible.

   

ACCESS TO AROCHE : Access to Aroche is by the N-433 (Portugal-Seville), access to San Mamed and Turobriga is done by a road located next to the first entrance (the closest to Cortegana) there is signposting. The other monuments are located in the historic center of Aroche.

ACCESS FOR HANDICAPPED : With a wheelchair you can't aceess the convent of Cilla (step at the entrance), the church of La Asunción (access staircase) and the hermitage of San Mamed (access stair).

The wall is located between the houses, but the streets of Aroche are steep, with a wheelchair you will need help. Turobriga is a large site but very well preserved and accesible.

 
 

CASTILLO (CORTEGANA)

El castillo de Cortegana es un castillo de fines del siglo XIII, quizás vinculado a la política de Sancho IV de Castilla de fortificación de la zona; de las estructuras árabes queda poco, quizás el aljibe, se remonte a esta época. En el siglo XVI el edificio fue muy reformado, con muros de mampostería y ladrillo en las esquinas y almenas.

VISITA : Horario de verano (21 de junio a 20 de septiembre) de martes a domingo de 11:00-14:00 y de 17:00-19:00. Horario de invierno (21 de septiembre a 10 de junio) de martes a domingo 11:00-14:00 y 16:00-18:00. Entrada 2 €.

ACCESO : Por la N-433 (Portugal-Sevilla) o por la N-435 (Badajoz-Huelva). Con silla de ruedas y con ayuda por el acceso trasero.
   

CASTLE (CORTEGANA)

The castle of Cortegana is a castle of ends of the 13 th century, perhaps linked to the policy of Sancho IV of Castilla for fortification the area; there is little left of the Arabs structures, perhaps the cistern dating back to this time. In 16 th century the building was reformed, with rubblework walls and brick in the corners and battlements.

VISIT : Summer time (June 21 to September 20) from Tuesdty to Sunday from 11:00-14:00 from 17:00-19:00. Winter time (September 21 to June 10) from Tuesday to Sunday 11:00-14:00 and 16:00-18:00. Admission € 2.

ACCESS : By the N-433 (Portugal-Seville) or by the N-435 (Badajoz-Huelva). With wheelchair and with help for the rear access.
 
 

CASTILLO (ENCINASOLA)

El castillo de Encinasola se remonta al siglo XIII, probablemente a tiempos de Alfonso X el Sabio, fue construido en mampostería, con sillería en las esquinas; conserva algunas torres cuadradas y circulares, aunque gran parte de sus muros están escondidos entre las casas; además pueden visitarse varios fuertes de la Guerra con Portugal, destaca el Fuerte del Cerro de la Horca.

VISITA : Visita exterior.

ACCESO : Desde la N-435, hay accesos a Encinasola y desde Portugal por Barrancos (por la N-258). Acceso no factible con silla de ruedas.
   

CASTLE (ENCINASOLA)

The castle of Encinasola dates back to the 13 th century, probably at the time of Alfonso X el Sabio (Wise), it was built in rubblework, with ashlar masony in the corners; it conserves some square and circular towers, although great part of its walls is hidden between the houses; you can also visit several forts of the War against Portugal, highlighting the Fort of Cerro de la Horca.

VISIT : Visit Outside.

ACCESS : From the N-435, there are accesses to Encinasola and from Portugal by Barrancos (on the N-258). Wheelchair access not feasible.
