Mahón: Monumentos y turismo


		MAHÓN: Es el municipio más oriental de España, según la leyenda fue fundado por Magón (hermano de Aníbal), los romanos la llamaron Portus Magonis, después pasaron por aquí vándalos y bizantinos, y fue musulmana, entonces sufriría los ataques de los normandos; Alfonso III de Aragón la tomó en (1287). Más tarde Barbarroja saqueo Mahón en (1535); tras la guerra de sucesión pasó a Inglaterra, hasta que fue reconquistada para España. Hoy es una ciudad tranquila con bonitos monumentos (iglesia de Santa María, iglesia de El Carmen, Pont de Sant Roc y el Museo de Menorca). En los alrededores de Mahón podrás disfrutar de un gran número de yacimientos arqueológicos de época talayótica, como los de Talati Dalt, Torelló, Cornia Nou, Trebaluger y Trepucó. También en Torelló puedes visitar la basílica paleocristiana.		MAHÓN: It is the eastern most municipality in Spain, according to legend it was founded by Magón (brother of Hannibal), the Romans called it Portus Magonis, Vandals & Byzantines passed through here, it was Muslim, then it would suffer the Norman attacks; Alfonso III of Aragón took it in (1287). Later Barbarossa sacked Mahón in (1535); after the war of succession it passed into British hands, until it was reconquered for Spain. Today it is a quiet city with beautiful monuments (Church of Santa María, Church of El Carmen, Pont de Sant Roc and the interesting Museum of Menorca). In the surroundings of Mahón you can enjoy a large number of archaeological sites from the Talayotic period, such as those of Talati Dalt, Torelló, Cornia Nou, Trebaluger and Trepucó. Also in Trepucó you can visit the early Christian basilica.


		MAHÓN: Mahón se encuentra en el extremo oriental de la isla, tiene aeropuerto y puerto. Conecta con Ciudadela (en el otro extremo de la isla por la Me-1). TALAYOTS: El acceso a Talati Dalt es un camino muy estrecho, pero corto. El Camino del Torelló es un camino vecinal, muy estrecho, en temporada alta es una auténtica “ratonera” acceder con coche, el acceso a lugares como Torelló (camino vecinal muy estrecho) es preferible hacerlo a pie o en bicicleta. El acceso para Trepucó debe de hacerse por la RM (Ronda de Mahón), en una glorieta veras el cartel de acceso, pero la vuelta se realiza por el camino del club de Tenis que va a parar a la ronda de Malbúger, pues los caminos son de un solo sentido. En Cornia Nou, Vernur te recomienda acceder por la Me-12.		MAHÓN: Mahón is located in the Eastern sector of the island, it has airport and port. It connect with Ciudadela (in the other side of the Island) with the Me-1. TALAYOTS: You must to consider. Access to Talati Dalt is a very narrow but short path. The Camino del Torelló is a very narrow local road, in high season it is a real “mousetrap” to access by car, access to places like Torelló (very narrow local road) is preferable on foot or by bicycle. The access to Trepucó must be done through the RM (Ronda de Mahón), in a roundabout you will see the access sign, but the return is done by the path of the Tennis club that goes to the Malbúger round, because the paths they are one way. In Cornia Nou, Vernur recommends that you access via the Me-12.


		MAHÓN: En la localidad hay poco aparcamiento, no es recomendable adentrarse mucho. Hay un parking de pago, muy interesante es el parking de la Esplanada (P1), si quieres no pagar solo debes de andar un poco más al exterior de Mahón. TALAYOTS: En Talati Dalt tenemos un pequeño aparcamiento, junto a la caseta de recepción. Existe un aparcamiento muy pequeño en Torelló, pero el camino de acceso es muy estrecho, en temporada alta es preferible dejar el coche antes de la entrada al “cami de Torelló”. En Trepucó tenemos un pequeño aparcamiento. En Cornia Nou no hay aparcamiento, debes dejar el coche junto a la Me-12, junto al cartel rosa.		MAHÓN: In the locality there is little parking, it is not recommended to enter too far. There is a paid parking very interesting is the Parking of La Esplanada (P1), if you want no paid only you must to walk something more to outside of Mahón. TALAYOTS: In Talati Dalt we have a small car park, next to the reception booth. There is a very small car park in Torelló, but the access road is very narrow, in high season it is preferable to leave the car before the entrance to the “Cami de Torelló”. In Trepucó we have a small car park. Unfortunately, iIn Cornia Nou there is no parking, you must leave the car next to the Me-12, next to the pink sign.


		MAHÓN: La zona donde se concentran los monumentos es el Centro Histórico. Aquí podemos ver monumentos como el pont de Sant Roc, la iglesia de Santa María y la iglesia del Carmen. Sigue el plano Vernur. En el Museo de Menorca tienes la posibilidad de hacer una visita guiada o libre como quieras. La distancia en los extremos de esta visita es 800 m. La visita es por un espacio plano. TALAYOTS: Hay buena señalización para acceder (ver plano). En Talati Dalt tenemos un circuito circular fácil de seguir. En Trepucó la visita se concentra en el talayot y después en los edificios situados al sur, en un circuito sencillo. En Cornia Nou tras dejar el coche en la Me-12, tienes un pequeño camino de unos 5 minutos andando, hasta el yacimiento.		MAHÓN: The area where the monuments are concentrated is the Historic Centre. 		MAHÓN: En cuanto al firme tenemos (caminos de piedra y cemento). Pavimento recio y compacto. Respecto al desnivel es una zona plana (con alguna ligera cuesta). Hay bordillos en las aceras. Con silla de ruedas debes tener en cuenta que en Santa María y en El Carmen hay escalones. El acceso al Museo de Menorca es a nivel de calle, sin problemas. TALAYOTS: En cuanto al firme tenemos (caminos de tierra y piedra). Pavimento compacto. Respecto al desnivel es una zona plana. Con silla de ruedas debes tener en cuenta, que el acceso es factible en Talati Dalt, Trepucó y Torello (talayot); pero la basílica de Torelló tiene una plataforma, por lo que es muy complicado acceder. 		MAHÓN: Te recomendamos las playas de Sa Mesquida , arenosa, al norte de Mahón y las playas de Cala Rafalet y Cala Alcaufar al sur de Mahón, que son rocosas. Las Fiestas de la Virgen de Gracia (6-9 de septiembre), son las fiestas patronales de Mahón, destacando el tradicional “jaleo” de los caballos y la verbena. 		INFO HISTORICO-ARTÍSTICA El Pont de Sant Roc es la entrada de las murallas, data del siglo XIV, pero la actual puerta fue restaurada en el siglo XVI, por el ataque otomano de (1535). Es el único vestigio que se conserva en Mahón de las antiguas murallas. ENTRADAS Y HORARIOS Visita exterior.				HISTORICAL-ARTISTIC INFO The Pont of Sant Roc is the entrance to the walls, dating from the 14 th century, but the current gate was restored in the 16 th century, due to the Ottoman attack of (1535). 		INFO HISTORICO-ARTÍSTICA El Museo de Menorca se ubica sobre el antiguo convento de San Francisco, que data de los siglos XVII-XVIII. La colección está formada por un fondo de unas 200.000 piezas, casi todas de carácter arqueológico y pictórico. ENTRADAS Y HORARIOS El horario de visitas es martes y jueves de (10:00-18:00), miércoles, viernes, sábado, domingo y festivos de (10:00-14:00), cierra los lunes. Entrada general 4€, hay entrada reducida.				HISTORICAL-ARTISTIC INFO The Museum of Menorca is located on top of the old convent of San Francisco, which dates back to the 17 th -18 th centuries. The collection is constituted by a fund of around 200,000 pieces, almost all of an archaeological and pictorial type. TICKETS AND TIMETABLE Timetable are Tuesday and Thursday (10:00-18:00), Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday and holidays (10:00-14:00), closed on Mondays. General admission €4, there is reduced admission.

		INFON HISTORICO-ARTÍSTICA Entre las estructuras podemos mencionar dos talayots, un recinto tipo taula, el grupo de los recintos cubiertos (zona de almacenaje), la famosa pilastra (similar a un menhir o estela), incluso tenemos varias cuevas y un abrevadero de ganado muy curioso y original. ENTRADAS Y HORARIOS Horario de verano (mayo-octubre) es de 10:00 a 20:00 horas y en agosto de 10:00 a 21:00 horas y la entrada general son 4€. We can stand out the Great Talayot, the two secondary talayots, vestiges of circular Talayotic houses, caves, three funerary enclosures and a Taula-type enclosure.

		INFO HISTORICO-ARTÍSTICA En la zona de Torelló tenemos el talayot más alto que existe en las islas Baleares y otro menor a unos 50 m. al sur; además hay una casa postalayótica (no visitable). También tenemos una basílica que data del siglo VI a.C., vinculada al mundo bizantino, son formidables sus mosaicos. ENTRADAS Y HORARIOS La entrada al talayot es gratuita. En verano (mayo a septiembre) se visita todos los días de 7:00-21:00 y en invierno (octubre a abril) de 7:00 a 19:00 horas.				HISTORICAL-ARTISTIC INFO In the Torelló area we have the highest talayot that exists in the Balearic Islands and another smaller one at around 50 m to the south; there is also a Late-Talayotic house (which can't be visited). We also have a basilica dating from the 6 th century BC, linked to the Byzantine world, its mosaics are formidable. TICKETS AND TIMETABLE Entrance to the talayot is free. In summer (May to September) it is visited every day from 7:00-21:00 and in winter (October-April) from 7:00 to 19:00 hours.

		INFO HISTORICO-ARTÍSTICA En Trepucó tenemos el talayot de mayor diámetro de las islas Baleares (26 m.) y existen otros dos más, de lo que debió de ser un gran poblado talayótico, también hay un gran recinto tipo taula (solo la taula mide 5 m. de altura), así como varios círculos de viviendas. Rodeando el gran talayot hay un gran fuerte abaluartado del siglo XVIII, construido por el ejército franco-español, contra los ingleses. ENTRADAS Y HORARIOS Acceso libre y gratis, todo el año.				HISTORICAL-ARTISTIC INFO In Trepucó we have the talayot with the largest diameter in the Balearic Islands (26 m.) and there are two more, obviously we have a large Talayotic settlement, there is also a large taula-type enclosure (only the taula measures 5 m. height), as well as several circles of houses. 		INFO HISTORICO-ARTÍSTICA En Cornia Nou tenemos un gran talayot al oeste y otro más pequeño al este; junto al talayot oeste, al sur, tenemos el famoso Edificio Sur, donde se tostaba el cereal. Desde el (2008) el yacimiento es objeto de excavaciones arqueológicas. Además en el aeropuerto junto al parking tienes la Casa Talaiotica del Aeropuerto. ENTRADAS Y HORARIOS La entrada es gratuita. El horario de verano (mayo-septiembre) es de 10:00 a 19:00 horas y el día de visita es el sábado. El horario de invierno (octubre-abril) es de 10:00 a 17:00 horas, los sábados.				HISTORICAL-ARTISTIC INFO In Cornia Nou we have a large talayot to the west and smaller one to the east; Next to the western talayot, to the south, we have the famous South Building, where the cereal was toasted. Since (2008) the site is the subject of archaeological excavations. Also at the airport next to the parking lot you have the Casa Talayótica of the Airport. TICKETS AND TIMETABLE Admission is free.
