MURALLAS DE LA ALCUDIA

INFORMACIÓN HISTORICO-ARTÍSTICA

Sabemos que en el siglo XIV el rey Jaime I mando construir las murallas de La Alcudia, entorno al casco histórico; la muralla con unos 6 metros de altura, mide 1,5 m. de longitud y dispone de 26 torres cuadradas. En el siglo XVI en el curso de las Guerras de Germania (1523) se edificaron 3 baluartes para su refuerzo; con Felipe II se hicieron algunas reformas de gusto renacentista; después en el siglo XIX parte de las murallas fueron derivadas.

Las puertas más importantes de la muralla de Alcudia son las puertas del Moll (o de Xara) al este y la puerta de San Sebastián al oeste.

LA ALCUDIA WALLS

HISTORICAL-ARTISTIC INFORMATION

We know that in the 14 th century king Jaime I ordered the building of the walls of La Alcudia, around the historic center; the walls with about 6 meters (19,6 feet) height, measures 1,5 meters (4,9 ft) length and has 26 square towers. In the 16 th century in the times of the Wars of Germania (1523) were built 3 bastions for its reinforcement, with Felipe II some reforms of Renaissance taste were made; then in the 19 th century part of the walls were demolished.

The most important doors of the wall of Alcudia are the doors of the Moll (of of Xara) to the East and the Door of San Sebastian to the west.

NORIA ROMANA DE LA ALCUDIA

INFORMACIÓN HISTORICO-ARTÍSTICA

Alcudia tiene un pasado arqueológico muy interesante. Entre estos restos, tenemos una noria que los expertos vinculan al mundo romano. Es una noria de sangre, funciona por tracción animal. Por tanto seria un testimonio posterior a la conquista de la isla por Quinto Cecilio Metelo en el 123 a.C. No obstante, los mejores restos romanos se ubican junto a la iglesia de San Jaime de la antigua Pollentia.

ROMAN NORIA OF LA ALCUDIA

HISTORICAL-ARTISTIC INFORMATION

Alcudia has a very interesting archaeological past. Among these remains we have a ferris wheel that scholars link to Roman world. It is a “blood” wheel, it works by animal traction. It would therefore be a testimony after the conquest of the island by Quintus Cecilius Metellus in 123 BC. However the best Roman remains are located next to the church of San Jaime of ancient Pollentia.

CUEVAS DE ARTA (CAPDEPERA)

INFORMACIÓN HISTORICO-ARTÍSTICA

Son unas bonitas cuevas con estalactitas y estalagmitas, que disponen de una amplia red de cavernas; una de las atracciones más notables es una estalactita de 22 metros de alto. Entre las historias relacionadas con la cueva, destacar que fue refugio de 2000 moros cuando el rey Jaime I el conquistador tomo la isla; que fue refugio de piratas, contrabandistas; inclusos e sabe que Julio Verne visito la cueva y ello pudo haber inspirado su novela “Viaje al centro de la Tierra”.

   

CAVES OF ARTA (CAPDEPERA)

HISTORICAL-ARTISTIC INFORMATION

We have a beautiful caves with stalactites and stalagmites, which have a wide network of caves; one of the most notable attractions is a stalactite of 22 meters (72 ft) high. Among the stories relates to the cave, note that is was refuge of 2,000 Moors when the king Jaime I the Conqueror took the island; which was a refuge of pirates, smugglers; even and knows that Jules Verne visited the cave and this may have inspired for his novel “Journey to the Center of the Earth”

Horario de verano (julio-septiembre) de lunes a domingo de 10:00 a 19:00; el horario de otoño (octubre) de lunes a domingo es de 10:00 a 18:00; el horario de invierno (noviembre-marzo) de lunes a domingo es de 10:00 a 17:00 y el horario de primavera (abril-junio) es de lunes a domingo de 10:00 a 18:00. La visita dura 45 m. Tarifa general 14 €; hay tarifas reducidas.

Summer timetable (July-September) from Monday to Sunday from 10 am to 7 pm; the autumn timetable (October) from Monday to Sunday is from 10 am to 6 pm; the winter timetable (November-March) from Monday to Sunday is from10 am to 5 pm and the spring timetable (April-June) is Monday to Sunday from 10 am to 6 pm. The visit lasts 45 m. General rate € 14, with reduced rates.

 
 

CUEVA DEL HAMS (MANACOR)

INFORMACIÓN HISTORICO-ARTÍSTICA

Las cuevas del Hams son llamadas así porque "hams" significa anzuelos en mallorquín, las cuevas se conocen gracias al descubrimiento por parte de Don Pedro Caldentey en (1905).

Los lagos subterráneos como el llamado “Mar de Venecia” contribuyen a disfrutar de un recorrido sinuoso, que fascinara al turista. Un sistema de iluminación único favorece la contemplación de formaciones geológicas de gran belleza.

   

CAVES OF HAMS (MANACOR)

HISTORICAL-ARTISTIC INFORMATION

The caves of the hams are called so because hams means “fishhooks” in Majorcan, the caves are known thanks to the discovery by Pedro Caldentey in (1905).

Underground lakes such as the so-called “Sea of Venice” help to enjoy a winding route, which will fascinate the tourist. A sophisticated lighting system allow the contemplation of the geological formations of great beauty.

Visita guiada. Horario de verano (Julio-octubre) de 10:00 a 17:00 h., horario de otoño de 10:00 a 16:60; el horario de invierno (16 de noviembre a 19 de marzo) es de 10:00 a 16:00; y el horario de primavera (20 de marzo al 30 de junio) es de 10:00 al 16:30. Entrada general 21 €.

ALCUDIA MURALLAS: En el centro histórico de La Alcudia.

ALCUDIA NORIA: Junto a la puerta de San Sebastián.

ARTA: La cuevas se ubican junto al pueblo de Canyamel al SE de Arta. El punto de encuentro es la carretera de las Cuevas s/n, Arta.

HAMS: Se encuentran en la costa Este de la isla de Mallorca, en el termino municipal de Manacor a 1 Km. al oeste de Porto Cristo.

ALCUDIA WALLS: In the historic center of La Alcudia.

ALCUDIA NORIA: Next to the door of San Sebastian.

ARTA: The caves are located next to the town of Canyamel to the SE of Arta. The meeting point is Cuevas s/n road, Arta.

HAMS: They are located on the east of the island of Mallorca, in the municipal term of Manacor 1 Km (0,62 miles) west of Porto Cristo.
