Jaén: Monumentos y turismo


		JAÉN-HISTORIA: En el subsuelo se han encontrado restos arqueológicos del Calcolítico, edad del Bronce y edad del Hierro, en época ibérica pudo ser un santuario religioso de la Oretania, lugar de peregrinación. Dominada por los cartagineses en (207 a.C.) pasó a manos romanas (se conservan estelas y mosaicos en el museo de Jaén). Tras los visigodos, los musulmanes toman el control de la ciudad de Jayyan, estos construyeron mezquitas, baños y el alcázar. Fernando III la conquisto en (1246), son tiempos en los que hay una importante Judería en Jaén. La ciudad fue saqueada por franceses en la Gª. de Independencia. Muy dura fue la Guerra Civil. Pero hoy es ciudad tranquila y agradable.		JAÉN-HISTORY: Archaeological remains from Chalcolithic, Bronze Age and Iron Age have been found in the subsoil. In the Iberian period it could have been a religious sanctuary of Oretania, a place of pilgrimage. Dominated by the Carthaginians in (207 BC) it passed into Roman hands (steles and mosaics are preserved in the Jaén Museum). After the Visigoths, the Muslims take control of the city of Jayyan, they built mosques, baths and the fortress. Fernando III conquered it in (1246), these are times when there is an important Jewish Quarter in Jaén. The city would be sacked by the French in the War of Independence (Napoleonic). Very hard was the Civil War. But today it is a quiet and pleasant city.

JAÉN-GENERAL: Conocida como la “Capital mundial del aceite de oliva”, la ciudad se ubica sobre la falda del cerro de Santa Catalina, creando un trazado de calles empinadas y estrechas. Entre los monumentos más interesantes mencionaremos al castillo de Santa Catalina, la catedral renacentista de Jaén, los baños árabes ubicados en el subsuelo del palacio de Villardompardo, la Judería, sus bonitas fuentes y la basílica de San Ildefonso.

JAÉN-GENERAL: Known as the “Olive Oil Capital of the World”, the city is located on the slopes of the Santa Catalina hill, creating a layout of steep and narrow streets. Among the most interesting monuments we will mention the castle of Santa Catalina, the Renaissance cathedral of Jaén, the Arab baths located in the basement of the Villardompardo palace, the Jewish quarter, its beautiful fountains and the basilica of San Ildefonso.


		JAÉN: La ciudad se encuentra junto a la A-44 (Bailen-Granada), con accesos por las salidas 36-37 y 40-42. El acceso a los monumentos se realiza muy bien desde la A-316, por la salida 57-63 (Castillo de Santa Catalina), por una gran avenida, evitando el cruce por todo el centro de la ciudad.		JAÉN: The city is located next the A-44 (Bailen-Granada) with the exits 36-37 and 40-42. 		JAÉN: Hay poco aparcamiento, no es recomendable adentrarse mucho. Hay suficiente espacio en la calle de la Circunvalación (P1), justo a los pies del castillo. El aparcamiento es gratuito. ZBE: Existen restricciones para los vehículos más contaminantes, según la etiqueta medioambiental. Hay previsto multar a los infractores. Consulta la Página Oficial del Ayuntamiento. Vernur colabora con muchos ayuntamientos en la regulación del tráfico de sus municipios, evitando colapsar algunas zonas, lo que provocaría “Turismofobia”, facilitando a la vez el acceso del visitante tanto al aparcamiento como a los centros históricos. 		JAÉN: La zona donde se concentran los monumentos es el Centro Histórico. Aquí podemos ver algunos monumentos como el monasterio de Santa Clara, el arco de San Lorenzo, la Magdalena, los baños árabes y la catedral. A las afueras podemos ver el castillo de Santa Catalina. Ver plano Vernur. La distancia máxima en los extremos de esta visita es 1.500 m. La visita se desarrolla por un espacio con cuestas. Vernur recomienda que no olvides llevar calzado cómodo y confortable, ropa acorde al clima, un buen sombrero y no olvides hidratarte.		JAÉN: The area where the monuments are concentrated is the Historic Centre. 		JAÉN: En cuanto al firme hay (caminos de cemento). Pavimento recio y compacto. Respecto al desnivel es una zona plana y con cuestas. No hay bordillos en las aceras (solo en el centro). Acceso factible para usuarios de sillas de ruedas, a la catedral; también a los baños árabes donde hay ascensores y rampas (teléfono 953.248.068); pero no al castillo de Santa Catalina. La tecnología de las sillas de ruedas ha avanzado mucho, cada vez más ligeras, hay modelos plegables, con todo tipo de adaptaciones, trata de conseguir una moderna, incluso hay ciudades donde se pueden alquilar, contacta con nosotros para añadir información.		JAÉN: As for the firm we have (cement roads). The firm is strong and compact. Regarding the unevenness, it is a flat area with some slopes. There aren't curbs on the sidewalks (only in the centre). Access feasible for wheelchair users to the cathedral, also to the Arab baths where there are lifts and ramps (telephone 953.248.068); but not to Santa Catalina's castle. Wheelchair technology has advanced significantly, they are becoming lighter, there are folding models, with all kinds of adaptions, always try to get a modern one, there are even cities where they can be rented, contact us to add information.


		JAÉN: Un área recreativa muy aconsejable es el Pinar de Santa Catalina, pues en un entorno precioso con un denso pinar, tenemos un tranquilo merendero con su aparcamiento, ideal para realizar un alto en el camino. 		JAÉN: Tiene eventos populares interesantes destaca la Semana Santa de Jaén (Semana Santa), está declarada fiesta de interés turístico nacional, destacando por sus pasos con magníficas tallas y sus saetas, también destacamos Las Lumbres de San Antón (16 de enero) una carrera en la que los corredores portan antorchas por la avenida de Andalucia. 		INFO HISTORICO-ARTÍSTICA El castillo de Santa Catalina ocupa un cerro escarpado, sobre grandes rocas, en el conjunto fortificado sobresale una torre de homenaje de más de 30 m. de altura con bóvedas ojivales, también tiene patio de armas con un aljibe, el flanco norte tiene 3 torres, dos son albarranas y la tercera refuerza el acceso a la fortaleza; en el flanco sur no hay torres, pero si una poterna y una letrina; el castillo es de mampostería, con sillería en ángulos; el edificio data del siglo XIII. HORARIOS-ENTRADA Horario de verano (julio-septiembre) de lunes a sábado de 10:00 a 14:00 y de 17:00 a 21:00, domingo de 10:00 a 15:00 y el horario de invierno (octubre-junio) es de lunes a sábado de 10:00 a 18:00 y los domingos de 10:00 a 15:00. 		INFO HISTORICO-ARTÍSTICA El templo se erigió sobre una gran mezquita islámica, con planta rectangular, dentro tiene 3 largas naves, con columnas cruciformes, soportando bóvedas vaídas, en los laterales fueron construyéndose en los siglos XVII y XVIII diversas capillas; en la fachada pueden verse 2 grandes torres simétricas. HISTORICAL-ARTISTIC INFO The temple was erected on a large Muslim mosque, has a rectangular plan, inside it has 3 naves, with cruciform columns, supporting vaults, in the side it were constructed in 17 th and 18 th centuries diverse chapels; on the façade can be seen 2 large symmetrical towers. 		INFO HISTORICO-ARTÍSTICA Los baños árabes forman parte hoy en día del Palacio de Villardompardo, es un *hamman* del siglo XI, con restauraciones de época almohade, y aunque Jaén fue tomada con Fernando III el Santo a comienzos del siglo XIII, los baños continuaron en uso hasta el siglo XV, después el conde de Villardompardo construyó en el siglo XVI el palacio y los baños quedaron incorporados en el sótano del edificio. HISTORICAL-ARTISTIC INFO The Arab baths are integrated in the Palace of Villardompardo, is a *hamman* of the 11 th century with restorations of the Almohad era and although Jaén was taken with Fernando III el Santo in the early 13 th century, baths continued in use until 15 th c, then the Count of Villardompardo built the palace in the 16 th c. and the bathrooms were incorporated in the basement of the building.
