PLAZA MAYOR

INFORMACIÓN HISTÓRICO-ARTÍSTICA

Erigida por Juan de Herrera y Juan Gómez de Mora, es un edificio que ha cambiado mucho por los incendios que sufrió en el pasado. La Casa de la Panadería de (1590) es el edificio más antiguo de la plaza y fue una antigua tahona, en un extremo tenemos el arco de Cuchilleros (uno de los 9 accesos que tiene), llamado así por la calle con la que comunica. En el centro se ubica la estatua de Felipe III.

HISTORICAL-ARTISTIC INFORMATION

Built by Juan de Herrera and Juan Gómez de Mora, it is a building that has changed a lot, for fires suffered in the past. The house of the Bakery dates from (1590) is the oldest building of the square and was an old bakery; at one end we have the Arch of Cuchilleros (one of the 9 accesses that it has), named so for the next street which communicates. In the center stay the statue of Felipe III.

FUENTE DE LOS CAÑOS DEL PERAL

INFORMACIÓN HISTÓRICO-ARTÍSTICA

Fuente monumental (tenia 34 m. de longitud), diseñada por el primer arquitecto de El Escorial Juan Bautista de Toledo (discípulo de Miguel Ángel), al parecer se construyo sobre unos baños árabes y surtió de agua por un acueducto al Palacio Real, la fuente fue enterrada en (1809), cuando se construyó y aplano la zona de la plaza de Oriente y no fue redescubierta hasta (1991) gracias a unas excavaciones arqueológicas.

Visitas los viernes, sábados y domingos de 11:00-13:00 y 17:00-19:00. Entrada gratuita.

FOUNTAIN OF LOS CAÑOS DEL PERAL (MADRID)

HISTORICAL-ARTISTIC INFORMATION

It is a monumental fountain had 34 m. (111 ft) long, designed by the first architect of El Escorial, Juan Bautista de Toledo (disciple of Michelangelo), apparently built on Arab baths and supplied water by an aqueduct at Royal Palace; the fountain was buried in (1809), when the area of Plaza de Oriente was flattened and built; and wasn't rediscovered until (1991) thanks to a set of archaeological excavations.

MUSEO NAVAL

INFORMACIÓN HISTÓRICO-ARTÍSTICA

El Museo Naval es un excitante recorrido por la historia naval de España, a través de diversos instrumentos náuticos, maquetas de navíos famosos, cartografía, manuscritos y condecoraciones; las salas envuelven al visitante en el mundo de época de los marinos españoles, del descubrimiento de América, del viaje de Elcano en la primera vuelta al planeta, de la Armada Invencible, de los valientes de Trafalgar y de la Guerra de Cuba etc… Es la versión española del National Maritime Museum del Reino Unido.

Horario de martes a domingos de 10:00-19:00, en agosto de martes a domingo la visita es de 10:00-15:00entrada 3€.

NAVAL MUSEUM (MADRID)

The Naval Museum is an exciting travel through Spain's naval history, through several nautical instruments, models of emblematic ships, cartography, manuscripts and medalls; the rooms envelop the visitor in the world of the Spanish sailors, of the discovery of America, the journey of Elcano in the first around the planet, the Invincible Army, the braves of Trafalgar and the War of Cuba etc... It is the Spanish version of the National Maritime Museum of the United Kingdom.

Timetable from Tuesday to Sunday from 10 am to 7 pm; in August, from Tuesday to Sunday the visit is from 10 am to 3 pm.

MUSEO ARQUEOLÓGICO NACIONAL

INFORMACIÓN HISTÓRICO-ARTÍSTICA

El MAN es el museo arqueológico de toda España y condensa toda la arqueología española, en Prehistoria son admirables los vasos campaniformes ejecutados a mano; en Protohistoria hay que admirar a la dama de Elche, en la Hispania romana el MAN cuenta con una magnifica colección de retratos de mármol, mosaicos y tablas jurídicas de bronce, al Medievo pertenece las joyas del tesoro de Guarrazar y la colección de marfiles andalusíes única en el mundo; además el museo alberga colecciones arqueológicas del antiguo Egipto, Oriente Próximo, Grecia y Roma.

Entrada general 3 €, hay entradas reducidas. Horarios de martes a sábado de 9:30-20:00, domingos y festivos es de 9:30-15:00, lunes cerrado.

NATIONAL ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM

The MAN is the archaeological museum of all Spain and condense all the Spanish archaeology, in the prehistory are admirable bell-shaped glasses executed by hand; in Protohistory we must admire the Dama de Elche; in Roman Hispania the MAN has a fantastic collection of portraits of marble, mosaics and legal tables of bronze; to Medieval Age belongs the jewels of Guarrazar treasure and the collection of Andalusi ivories unique in the world; in addition the museum keep archaeological collections of ancient Egypt, the Middle East, Greece and Rome.

General rate € 3, there are reduced tickets. Timetables from Tuesday to Saturday from 9,30 am to 8 pm; Sundays and public holidays is from 9,30 am to 15 pm; Monday closed.

PLAZA MAYOR: Junto a la calle Mayor, a 300 m. del Metro Ópera y a 300 m. del Metro Sol.

FUENTE: Puede ser visitada en la estación de Metro de Ópera.

MUSEO NAVAL: Se ubica en el Paseo del Prado a 200 metros del Metro de Banco de España.

MUSEO ARQUEOLÓGICO: Se ubica en la calle Serrano 13., Metro Serrano a 150 m.

ACCESO PARA MINUSVÁLIDOS

PLAZA MAYOR: Visita factible para usuarios de sillas de ruedas.

MUSEO NAVAL: Acceso factible para sillas de ruedas a la primera planta gracias a un ascensor, las salas tienen espacios amplios.

M. ARQUEOLÓGICO: Acceso apto para silla de ruedas, con rampas de acceso, ascensores para pasar de una a otra planta, salas amplias y aseo adaptado. Dispone ademas de planos táctiles y guías multimedia.

ACCESS MADRID (CENTER)

PLAZA MAYOR: Next to the Mayor st, to 300 m (984 ft) of Opera Metro and 300 m (984 ft) of Sol Metro.

FOUNTAIN: It can be visited at the Opera metro station.

NAVAL MUSEUM: It is located in the Paseo del Prado to 200 meters (656 ft) from Banco de España metro.

ARCHAEOLOGIC MUSEUM: Located on 13 Serrano Street, Serrano Metro at 150 meters (492 ft)

ACCESS FOR THE HANDICAPPED

PLAZA MAYOR: Feasible visit for wheelchairs users.

FOUNTAIN: Feasible visit for users of wheelchairs; but Opera doesn't have a lift from the street (the nearest elevator is in Sol metro).

NAVAL MUSEUM: Accessible access for wheelchairs, to the first floor thanks to an elevator; the rooms have enough space to move.

ARCHAEOLOGIC MUSEUM: Complete access for wheelchairs, with ramps, elevators to pass among floors; spacious rooms and adapted toilet. It also has MAN touch plans and multimedia guides.
