CASTILLO DE MONTERREY (VERIN)

INFORMACIÓN HISTÓRICO-ARTÍSTICA

El castillo de Monterrey es un complejo con murallas, palacetes, una iglesia, un hospital de peregrinos, un convento franciscano y una iglesia de los jesuitas. Dispone de una torre de homenaje de 22 m. de altura y de otra más baja (Las Damas). El castillo se erigió en un cerro en los ss. XI y XV.

ENTRADAS Y HORARIOS

Cerrado lunes y martes, el horario es de 10:30-13:30 y 17:00-20:00 en verano, mientras en invierno es de 10:30-13:30 y 16:00-19:00. El acceso al casillo es libre.

CASTLE OF MONTERREY (VERIN)

HISTORICAL-ARTISTIC INFORMATION

Monterrey Castle is a magnificent complex with walls, palaces, church, a hospital for pilgrims, a Franciscan convent and a Jesuist church. It has a Keep of 22 meters (72 ft) high and other tower call of “The ladies”. The castle was erected over a powerful hill between the 11 th and 15 th centuries.

Closed Mondays and Tuesdays, summer time are from 10,30 am – 1,30 pm and 5 pm – 8 pm and winter time is from 10,30 am -13,30 pm and 4 pm – 7pm. Access free.

HOSPITAL DE PEREGRINOS (VERÍN)

INFORMACIÓN HISTORICO-ARTÍSTICA

Sin duda, el Hospital de Peregrinos es el edificio más original, fue ordenado construir por Gaspar de Zuñiga Acevedo y Velasco, dedicado a la Santísima Trinidad se data en el siglo XIV, destaca la fachada gótica, con arco ojival y un ángel.

PILGRIM HOSPITAL (VERIN)

HISTORICAL-ARTISTIC INFORMATION

Clearly, the Pilgrim Hospital of Verin is the most original building in Verin, was built by Gaspar de Zuñiga Acevedo y Velasco, was dedicated to the Sacred Trinity, was dated in the 14th century, stand out the gothic façade, with ogival arch and an angel.

LA IGLESIA DE LA MERCED (VERIN)

INFORMACIÓN HISTORICO-ARTÍSTICA

La Iglesia de la Merced de Verín, es básicamente del siglo XVIII, destacando los elementos barrocos; es un complejo con una zona de culto y otra para la vida de los monjes; es de sillería de gran calidad, en la construcción se reaprovecharon elementos de Monterrey del siglo XVII, en la fachada destaca la torre con su balconada, la puerta de acceso con pilastras y pináculos.

HORARIOS- ENTRADA

El horario de misas (septiembre-junio) es los laborables (10:00 y 20:00), y festivos (9:00, 12:30 y 19:30).

THE MERCED CHURCH (VERIN)

HISTORICAL-ARTISTIC INFORMATION

The church of La Merced de Verín, is basically from 18 th century, highlighting the Baroque elements; it is a complex with a cult area and another for the life of the monks; it is made of high quality ashlar masonry, in the buildng elements of Monterre were reused from 17 th century; in the facade highlights the tower with its balcony, the access door with pilasters and pinnacles.

CASTRO DE A SACEDA (CUALEDRO)

INFORMACIÓN HISTORICO-ARTÍSTICA

El Castro de A Saceda (Cualedro), se data entre el siglo V y el I a.C., tiene varios accesos muy monumentales, algunos tramos de muralla superan los 2 metros de altura; hay un gran número de cabañas circulares y estructuras rectangulares.

A SACEDA HILL FORT (CUALEDRO)

HISTORICAL-ARTISTIC INFORMATION

A Saceda hillfort (Cualedro), is dated between the 5 th century and the 1 st century BC, has several accesses, very monumental; some sections of the wall exceed 2 m. (6,56 ft) in height; there are a large number of circular cottages and rectangular structures.

ACCESO POR CARRETERA

(VERIN)

UBICACIÓN DE ENCLAVES:

Verín se ubica en la A-52 (Orense-Benavente), accediéndose por la salida 155; para Cualedro coger la salida 173 de la A-52.

CASTRO: Desde Cualedro coger dirección a A Xironda, más adelante veremos el cartel para el castro, en A Saceda . Giramos a la izquierda y después a la derecha, entramos en una pista de tierra avanzamos entre 100 y 200 metros, aparcamos y subimos el cerro, las ruinas están en el flanco sur.

LOCATION OF SITES:

Verin is located on the A-52 (Orense-Benavente), accessed by exit 155; for Cualedro take exit 173 of the A-52.

HILLFORT: From Cualedro take direction to A Xironda, later we will see the signpost for the hillfort, in A Saceda we turn to the left and after to right, we enter in a dirt track, we advance between 100 and 200 meters (328-656 ft), we park and climb the hill, the remains are on the south flank.
