El castelo templario de Tomar es un edificio datado en el siglo XII, dentro puede verse el Convento de Cristo, uno de los edificios más bellos del centro de Portugal. Fue construido por Gualdim Pais, con los templarios se introdujo la torre redondeada, pues era más difícil de asaltar por las torres móviles; dentro pueden verse viviendas

CASTLE OF TOMAR

HISTORICAL-ARTISTIC INFORMATION

The Templar castle of Tomar is a building dating back to the 12 th century, inside you can see the Convent of Christ, one of the most beautidul buildings in central Portugal. It was constructed by Gualdim Pais, with Templars rounded towers was introduced, because it was more difficult to assault by movable towers; inside can be seen houses.

		CONVENTO DE CRISTO – TOMAR INFORMACIÓN HISTÓRICO-ARTÍSTICA El convento de Cristo es Patrimonio de la Humanidad desde (1983), es una soberbia construcción que se extiende por 5 siglos con rasgos árabes, góticos y renacentistas. Destacando la iglesia de planta circular o centralizada, típica de los templarios, modelada siguiendo los modelos de la Mezquita de la Roca de Jerusalén y que data del siglo XII. La parte más antigua es la “Charola”, que es un oratorio; el conjunto fue transformado en el siglo XVI con Don Manuel I, muy notable es el pórtico renacentista. Highlighting the circular church of centralized plan, typical of Templars, designed with the models of the Mosque of the Rock of Jerusalem and dating from the 12 th century. The oldest part is the “Charola”, which is an oratory; the whole was very reformed in the 16 th century with Don Manuel I, very remarkable is the Renaissance portico. ACUEDUCTO DE TOMAR

El curioso acueducto de los Pegões es una construcción datada en el siglo XVI, en tiempos de Felipe I de Portugal, ejecutado por el arquitecto italiano Filippo Terzi y acabado con el arquitecto Pedro Fernando de Torres, se construyó con la idea de abastecer de agua al Convento de Cristo; mide 6 Km. de longitud y la altura máxima son 30 metros, tiene desarenadotes para decantar el agua; es Monumento Nacional desde (1910).

AQUEDUCT DE TOMAR

The Pegões aqueduct is a building dating back to the 16th century, during the time of Felipe I of Portugal, designed by the italian architect Filippo Terzi and finished with the architect Pedro Fernando de Torres, was built with the idea of Supplying water to the Convent of Christ; it measures 6 Km. (3.72 mi) in length and the maximum height is 30 meters (198.24 ft), it has sand-cleaners to decant the water, is National Monument since (1910).

		ACCESO A TOMAR ACCESO Tomar se encuentra en el centro de Portugal, junto a la A-13 (que viene de Coimbra); muy cerca de la A-23 (próxima a Torres Novas) y cerca de la A-1 (próxima a Ourém y Leiria). Los monumentos se ubican en la margen occidental del río Nabão. ACCESO PARA MINUSVÁLIDOS Castelo de Tomar: Se puede entrar dentro de los dos recintos, pero no subir a las torres, con la silla de ruedas. Convento de Cristo: No son pocas las escalinatas que rodean el complejo y que dificultan la visita con silla de ruedas. Acueducto: Visita factible.				ACCESS TO TOMAR LOCATION Tomar is located in the center of Portugal next to the A-3 (start in Coimbra); very close to the A-23 (near Torres Novas), and very close to the A-1 (near Ourém and Leiria). The monuments are located in the western margin of the Nabão River. ACCESS FOR THE HANDICAPPED Castle of Tomar: Its possible enter inside the 2 enclosures, but don't climb towers, with wheelchair. Convent of Christ: There are many steps that surround the complex and make it difficult the visit with a wheelchair. Aqueduct: Feasible visit.
