Ezcaray-S. Millán: Monumentos y Turismo


		EZCARAY: Es una localidad riojana, atravesada por el río Oja, que vive de la ganadería, la industria maderera, y el turismo. Habitada por los berones, sería después conquistada por los romanos, en la Edad Media, primero fueron los navarros en tomar control de Ezcaray y tras (1076) pasó a manos castellanas. El topónimo parece provenir del euskera y significaría “peña alta”. Tiene monumentos muy bonitos de variados estilos artísticos (románico, gótico y barroco); y rincones preciosos, además su proximidad a la estación invernal de Valdezcaray es un reclamo más. SAN MILLAN: Es un pueblo pequeño de caserío poco cuidado (solo algunas casas conservan el viejo espíritu), pero con dos magníficos monasterios de obligada visita.		EZCARAY: It is a Rioja town, crossed by the Oja River, which lives from livestock, the wood industry, and tourism. Inhabited by the Berones, it would later be conquered by the Romans; in the Middle Ages, the Navarrese were first to take control of Ezcaray and after (1076) it passed into Castilian hands. The place-name seems to come from Basque and would mean “high rock”. 		EZCARAY: La iglesia de Santa María de Ezcaray se encuentra en el centro del pueblo. No dispone de señalización. La distancia máxima en los extremos de esta visita es 200 m. Espacio plano. Al monasterio de Suso no se puede acceder con vehículo privado y hay que gestionar la visita por teléfono (34.941.373.082), se accede con un autobús desde el aparcamiento de la Central de Reservas (c./ Miranda 3). 		EZCARAY: En el entorno de Ezcaray hay varias rutas de senderismo (al mirador de San Torcuato, la del río Oja o la de Santa Bárbara), esta última culmina en un merendero. SAN MILLAN: En Vernur creemos que la visita guiada al monasterio de Suso es magnífica, la guía es una profesional, no te la pierdas. Si tienes prisa puedes subir andando (pero no con coche). Si coges la carretera a Lugar del Río tras unos 6 kilómetros llegaras al área Recreativa de La Emendula, donde tienes un merendero junto al río Cárdenas, ideal para hacer una parada en plena naturaleza. 		INFO HISTORICO-ARTÍSTICA La iglesia de Santa María de Ezcaray es de estilo románico. Se data en el siglo XV, aunque hay elementos del siglo XII, XIV y XVI. Fuera destacan los garitones que le dan un aire militar y la fachada gótica. Dentro sobresale el museo de la sacristía y el retablo mayor del siglo XVI, aunque tiene otros interesantes retablos con elementos renacentistas y góticos. Tiene 2 naves, aquí se encontraron las “ Glosas Emilianenses ” (textos más antiguos escritos en castellano). Dentro sobresalen los sarcófagos de los Siete Infantes de Lara.
