Es una comarca con una riqueza arqueológica notable, hay varios dólmenes (Ontiveros, Matarrubilla y la Pastora) en la localidad de Valencina. Aquí en Camas, se encontró el famoso tesoro del Carambolo, un formidable tesoro de la cultura tartésica.

A Publio Cornelio Escipión “el Africano” se atribuye la fundación de la ciudad romana de Itálica, en Santiponce, aunque serian Trajano y Adriano los grandes impulsores de la ciudad.

Los musulmanes construyeron mezquitas (reconvertidas después en iglesias), también tenemos el hamman (baño) de Palomares del Río.

VALENCINA (Dolmen): Para ir a Valencina de la Concepción, desde la SE-30 cogemos la salida 19 (Camas/Olivares), y siguiendo la dirección Olivares llegaremos a Valencina; el dolmen de La Pastora y el de Matarrubilla se ubican al Este de Valencina, a pocos metros del pueblo.

Tenemos una ciudad romana de la que sobresalen multitud de monumentos, como el magnífico anfiteatro, considerado por muchos el mejor de Hispania, el teatro, las termas, el traianeum , multitud de casas, como la de la Exedra, restos de la muralla etc…

Cronología romana, Santiponce fue fundada en el (206 a.C.) por Publio Cornelio Escipión el Africano y aquí nacieron los emperadores Trajano y Adriano.

Las excavaciones comenzaron a mediados del siglo XVIII, con Francisco de Bruna.

Es muy espectacular el anfiteatro, sin duda el mejor de Hispania, también debes visitar algunos tramos de muralla, el precioso teatro, el Traianeum, las termas romanas, un gran número de domus (casa romana), deteniéndote en sus mosaicos, columnas y estructuras.
