CASTILLO DE SIMANCAS

INFORMACIÓN HISTÓRICO-ARTÍSTICA

El castillo se construyó en el siglo XV, sería transformado en Archivo General del Reino por Carlos I, reformado en el siglo XVI con Juan de Herrera, adquirió un sabor palaciego; después el arquitecto Francisco de Mora realizo reformas en los siglos XVII al XVIII. Simancas también tiene un puente romano-medieval con 17 arcos, así como la iglesia del Salvador, que tiene torre románica, aunque el edificio data del siglo XVI.

ENTRADAS Y HORARIOS

El horario para el castillo de Simancas es de lunes a viernes de 10:00-14:00 y de 17:00-19:00, sábados, domingos y festivos es de 11:00-14:00 y de 17:00-19:00. Entrada general gratis. Se pueden concertar visitas guiadas (lunes-viernes), se realizan a las 12:00 con 5 personas mínimo (Teléfono 983.590.003).

Simancas se encuentra exactamente en la A-62, entre Tordesillas (en la A-6) y Valladolid.

CASTLE OF SIMANCAS

HISTORICAL-ARTISTIC INFORMATION

The castle was built in the 15 th century, and transformed into General Archives of the Kingdom by Carlos I, reformed in the 16 th century with Juan de Herrera, acquires a palatial image; then the architect Francisco de Mora made reforms in the 17 th and 18 th centuries. Simancas has a Roman-Medieval bridge with 17 arches, and the church of El Salvador, which has a Romanesque tower, although the building dates from the 16 th c.

TICKETS AND TIMETABLE

The timetable for Simancas castle is from Monday to Friday from 10 am to 2 pm and from 5 pm to 7 pm; Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays are from 11 am to 2 pm and from 5 pm to 7 pm. Admission is free. Guided visits (Monday-Friday), at 12 am with 5 persons minimum (Phone 983.590.003).

Simancas is located on the A-62, between Tordesillas (on the A-6) and Valladolid.

CASAS DEL TRATADO DE TORDESILLAS

Tordesillas es ciudad con mucha historia, aquí se firmo el famoso Tratado de Tordesillas en (1494) entre España y Portugal para repartirse la explotación comercial del mundo. Son 2 edificios el más oriental se data en el siglo XVI, tienen primer piso de sillares y pisos superiores de ladrillo con balcones, el más occidental tiene además heráldica.

VISITA: Verano (Junio-Septiembre) de 10:00-13:30 y 17:00-19:30 horas y en Invierno (Octubre-Mayo) de 10:00-13:30 y 16:00-18:30 horas; el domingo solo de 10:00-14:00, lunes cerrado.
   

HOUSES OF THE TORDESILLAS TREATY

Tordesillas is a city with a loto f history, here was signed the famous Treaty of Tordesillas in (1494) between Spain and Portugal to share the comercial exploitation of the world. There are 2 buildings, the most eastern dating from the 16 th century, the first floor is made of ashlars and the upper floors are brick with balconies, the wetern one also has heraldry.

VISIT: Summer (June-September) from 10 am -1:30 pm and 5 pm -7:30 pm and in winter (October-May) from 10 am -1:30 pm and 4 pm – 6 pm; Sunday only from 10 am to 2 pm; Monday closed.
 
 

CONVENTO DE SANTA CLARA

El Convento de Santa Clara fue el hogar de Juana la Loca, gran parte de las estructuras son del siglo XIV, ligadas a la personalidad de Doña Leonor de Guzmán, es un palacio mudéjar del siglo XIV, transformado posteriormente en convento; la fachada respire un fuerte sabor andalusí, con cerámica vidriada, la capilla dorada se decoró con arcos polilobulados; pero en el edificio también hay elementos góticos, incluso clasicistas. Los baños árabes formaron parte del alcázar árabe y son más antiguos que el resto del conjunto palaciego.

VISITA: Para el Convento de Santa Clara el horario de martes a sábado es de 10:00-14:00 y de 16:00-18:30, domingos y festivos es de 10:30-15:00; lunes cerrado. Tarifa general de 6 €.
   

CONVENT OF SANTA CLARA

The Convent of Santa Clara was the home of Juana la Loca, many of the structures are from 14 th century, linked to the personality of Doña Leonor de Guzmán, is a Mudejar palace from 14 century, later transformed into a convent; the façade breathes a strong Andalusian flavor, with glazed ceramics, the Golden Chapel was decorated with polylobed arches; but in the building there are also Gothic elements, even classicists. The Arab baths were part of the Arab quarters and are older than the rest of the palatial complex.

VISIT: For the Santa Clara Convent the timetable from Tuesday to Saturday is from 10 am to 2 pm and from 4 pm to 6,30 pm; Sundays and public holidays are from 10,30 pm to 3 pm; closed Monday. General rate of € 6.
 
 

IGLESIA DE SAN PEDRO

La iglesia de San Pedro es de estilo gótico, data del siglo XVI, con reformas posteriores; planta rectangular con 3 naves, en el exterior sobresale la alta espadaña de ladrillo coronada con pináculos escurialenses; dentro sobresale la capilla de los Gaitan con retablo de columnas salomónicas y la escultura de la Virgen del Carmen obra de la escuela de Gregorio Fernández; junto con el órgano barroco de Manuel Benito Gómez.

VISITA: Antes y después de las misas a las 20:00 (verano) y a las 19:00 (Invierno).
   

CHURCH OF SAN PEDRO

The church of San Pedro is Gothic, dating from the 16 th century, with later reforms; rectangular floor with 3 naves, on the outside stands the high brick belltower crowned with Escorial type pinnacles; inside the Chapel of the Gaitain stands out with altarpiece of Salomonic columns and the sculpture of the Virgin of El Carmen work of the school of Gregorio Fernández; in addition with the baroque organ of Manuel Benito Gómez.

VISIT: Before and after the Masses at 8 pm (summer) and at 7:00 pm (Winter).
 
 

IGLESIA DE SANTA MARÍA

La Iglesia de Santa Maria de la Asunción, data del siglo XVI, planta de una nave con gruesos contrafuertes para sostener la bóveda de cañón, las capillas se datan en los siglos XVII y XVIII, el templo se completa en el siglo XVIII con elementos escurialenses. Es Bien de Interés Cultural desde (1983).

CHURCH OF SANTA MARÍA

The church of Santa Maria of la Asunción, dates from the 16 th century, floor of nave with thick buttresses to support the barrel vault, the chapels are dated in the 17 th and 18 th centuries, the temple is completed in the 18 th century with Escorial type elements. It is a Cultural Interest Heritage since (1983).

IGLESIA DE SANTIAGO

La iglesia de Santiago es la más antigua podría remontarse a los siglos X y XI, pero hoy en día sus restos se datan en el siglo XVI, es una ruina consolidada con tapial, ladrillo y sillares de piedra, donde sobresalen sobre todo los arcos con dovelas.

VISITA: Exterior, estado ruinoso.
   

CHURCH OF SANTIAGO

The church of Santiago is the oldest one could go back to the 10 th and 11 th centuries, but today its remains date back to the 16 th century, it is a ruin consolidated with rammed earth, brick and stone ashlars, where the arches stand out voussoirs.

VISIT: Outside, ruin condition.
 
 

IGLESIA-MUSEO DE SAN ANTOLIN

La Iglesia de San Antolín destaca por el fuerte contraste entre su torre cuadrada de ladrillo y el resto del edificio de sillería de piedra, es un edificio gótico que comenzó a construirse en el siglo XV y no se termino hasta el siglo XVII; dentro sobresale la bóveda de crucería estrellada de la capilla mayor.

VISITA: Diciembre y Enero solo abre sábados (11:30-13:30 y 16:30-18:30) y domingos (11:30-13:30), el resto del año el horario es de martes a sábado de 11:30-13:30 y 17:00-19:00 y domingos de 11:30-13:30, lunes cerrado; tarifa general 2€.
   

CHURCH-MUSEUM OF SAN ANTOLIN

The church of San Antolin stands out for the storng contrast between its square brick tower and the rest of stone ashlar building. It is a Gothic building that began to be built in the 15 th century and didn't end until the 17 th century; inside the starry ribbed vault of the main chapel stands out.

VISIT: December and January only open Saturdays (11,30 am -1,30 pm and 4,30 pm – 6,30 pm) and Sundays (11,30 am – 1,30 pm), the rest of the year the timetable is from Tuesday to Saturday of 11,30 am – 1,30 pm and 5 – 7 pm and Sundays from 11,30 am to 1,30 pm; Monday closed; general rate €2.
 
 

ACCESO A TORDESILLAS

Entre Salamanca y Valladolid, se encuentra Tordesillas, en plena A-6; en el casco antiguo podemos visitar los monumentos que hemos mencionado.

ACCESO PARA MINUSVÁLIDOS

Acceso apto para sillas de ruedas, al Convento de Santa Clara pero con limitaciones; los baños árabes no son accesibles. En las Casas del Tratado se han habilitado rampas de acceso. En Santa María hay una rampa que mejora el acceso. En San Pedro hay algún peldaño pero factible de pasar. Visita Exterior a la iglesia de Santiago.

 

   

ACCESS TO TORDESILLAS

Between Salamanca and Valladolid, you will find Tordesillas, next to A-6; in the same old village we can visit the main monuments we have mentioned.

ACCES FOR THE HANDICAPPED

Access suitable for wheelchairs, to the Santa Clara Convent, but with limitations; Arab baths are not accessible. Access ramps have been enabled in the Treaty houses. In Santa Maria there is a ramp that improves access. In San Pedro there is some step but is feasible to pass. Outside visit the church of Santiago.
