ARBOL DE GUERNICA

El árbol de Guernica, es el lugar donde los nobles vascos se reunían para tratar los asuntos importantes que merecían discusión, según algunos historiadores aquí en este árbol los Señores de Vizcaya juraban respetar los “fueros” de Vizcaya. El árbol de Guernica es un símbolo de la identidad vasca y del movimiento de independencia vasco.

GUERNICA TREE

The tree of Guernica, is the place where the Basque nobles met to discuss the important issues that deserved discussion, according to some historians here in this tree the Lords of Vizcaya swore to respect the “Laws” of Vizcaya. The Guernica tree is a symbol of Basque identity and the Basque independence movement.

SALA DE JUNTAS DE GUERNICA

La Casa de Juntas de Guernica es obra del arquitecto Antonio de Etxebarria, es del siglo XIX, construido en estilo neoclásico; en la estancia principal se sitúa la “Sala de Juntas” donde se reúnen las sesiones plenarias de la Asamblea General de Vizcaya, y pueden admirarse los retratos de diversos señores de Vizcaya.

MEETINGS COURT OF GUERNICA

The Meetings Court of Guernica is the work of the architect Antonio de Extebarria, from the 19 th century, built in neoclassical style; in the main room is the “Meeting Hall”, where the plenary sessions of the General Assembly of Vizcaya meet, and the portraits of various masters of Vizcaya can be admired.

VISIT : Timetable every day (10:00-2:00 and 4:00-6:00), in summer until 7:00 pm. Free pass.
 
 

MUSEO DE LA PAZ – GUERNICA

El Museo de la Paz de Guernica se ubica en el centro de Guernica, en la plaza de los Fueros, este museo tiene una amplia exposición audiovisual, en el que se recogen muestras e información sobre el bombardeo nazi del 26 de abril de (1937), es un museo moderno.

Para culminar la visita a Guernica puedes visitar en el Parque de los Pueblos de Europa, las esculturas de Henry Moore y Eduardo Chillida.

VISITA: Horario de martes a sábado (10:00-14:00 y 16:00-18:00) en verano de marzo a septiembre es de (10:00-19:00). Entrada 5 €.
   

THE PEACE MUSEUM – GUERNICA

The Peace Museum of Guernica is located in the center of Guernica, in the Plaza de los Fueros, this museum has a large audiovisual exhibition, which includes samples and information about the Nazi Bombing on April 26 (1937). It is a modern museum.

To culminate the visit to Guernica you can visit in the Park of the Peoples of Europe, the sculptures of Henry Moore and Eduardo Chillida.

VISIT: Timetable from Tuesday to Saturday (10:00-2:00 and 4:00-6:00) in summer from March to September is (10:00-7:00). Rate €5.

 
 

IGLESIA DE S. MARÍA – GUERNICA

La iglesia de Santa María de Guernica, es un edificio que ha evolucionado mucho, se inicia en el siglo XV, conservando poco de estilo gótico, después se reforma en el siglo XVI en estilo renacentista, culminándose el edificio en el siglo XVII.

VISITA: Hay visitas guiadas (946.255.892), dura una hora, precio 2,6€ (inglés, español, euskera).

   

CHURCH OF S. MARÍA - GUERNICA

The church of Santa María of Guernica, is a building that has evolved a lot, started in the 15 th century, retaining little Gothic style, then reformed in the 16 th century in Renaissance style, culminating the building in the 17 th century.

VISIT : There are guided tours (946.255.892), lasts one hour, price €2,6 (English, Spanish, Basque).

 
 

CASTILLO DE EUGENIA DE MONTIJO

En el castillo de Eugenia de Montijo (Arteaga) destacamos los arcos ojivales, los vanos geminados, almenas, matacanes y su poderosa torre de homenaje. El castillo de Arteaga (Gautegiz), ha sido datado en el siglo XV, pero lo que vemos es en gran medida una reconstrucción neogótica del siglo XIX-XX, especialmente su torre de homenaje inspirada en el romanticismo francés.

ENTRADAS Y HORARIOS: Visita solo exterior, si no vas a contratar sus servicios, pues hoy en día es un bonito y confortable hotel, del que tenemos excepcionales referencias.
   

CASTLE OF EUGENIA DE MONTIJO

In the castle of Eugenia de Montijo (Arteaga) we highlight the pointed arches, the double windows, battlements, machicolations and its powerful tower of homage. The castle of Arteaga (Gautegiz), has been dated in the 15 th century, but what we see is largely a neo-Gothic reconstruction of the 19 th -20 th century, especially it's tower of homage inspired by French romanticism.

TICKETS AND TIMETABLE : Visit only outside, if you aren't going to hire their services; because nowadays it is a hotel, of which we have exceptional references.
 
 

CUEVA DE SANTIMAMIÑE (CORTEZUBI)

La cueva de Santimamiñe es Patrimonio de la Humanidad por la UNESCO desde (2008), está considerada como un icono de la cultura vizcaína. La cueva tiene 365 metros de longitud. Las pinturas rupestres son el Paleolítico Superior, del magdaleniense (14.000-9.000 a.C.), con representaciones de bisontes, cápridos, caballos, ciervos, osos etc. Fue descubierta por unos niños en (1916), después entre (1918) y (1926) es estudiada por hombres como Telesforo de Aranzadi y José Miguel de Barandiaran; ya en los 60' seria estudiada por Apellaniz.

ENTRADAS Y HORARIOS: Es imprescindible reservar la visita por mail o en los teléfonos 94.465.16.57 y 94.465.16.00, pidiendo un pase a la hora que más interese de las disponibles. Entrada general de 5 €.

CAVE OF SANTIMAMIÑE (CORTEZUBI)

The cave of Santimamiñe is a World Heritage Site by UNESCO since (2008), is considered an icon of the culture of Vizcaya. The cave is 365 m long (1197,2 ft). The cave paintings belong to the Upper Paleolithic, exactly to the Magdalenian (14,000-9,000 B.C.) with representations of bison, caprids, horses, deer, bears, etc. It was discovered by children in (1916), then between (1918) and (1926) it is studied by men like Telesforo de Aranzadi and José Miguel de Barandiaran; already in the 60's would be studied by Apellaniz.

ACCESO

GUERNICA: Desde la AP-8 coger la BI-635.ARTEAGA: Arteaga se encuentra cerca de Guernica, en la carretera Guernica-Lekeitio y el castillo esta señalizado con cartelería.

SANTIMAMIÑE: Desde Guernica coge la dirección Lekeitio, la cueva se ubica en el barrio de Basondo al pie del monte Ereñozar.

ACCESO MINUSVALIDOS

GUERNICA: Muy sencillo (iglesia, parque, árbol) más complejo en los demás. ARTEAGA: Tiene parking y acceso sencillo para silla de ruedas.SANTIMAMIÑE: Hay tramos con escalones que impiden el acceso de sillas de ruedas.

GUERNICA: From AP-8 take the BI-635. ARTEAGA: Arteaga is located near of Guernica, on the Guernica-Lekeitio road and the castle is signposted with signage.

SANTIMAMIÑE: From Guernica take the road to Lekeitio, the cave is located in the neighborhood of Basondo at foot of Mount Ereñozar.

ACCESS FOR HANDICAPPED:

GUERNICA: Very easy (church, park, tree) but is more difficult in others. ARTEAGA: It has a good parking and easy access for wheelchair users. SANTIMAMIÑE: There are sections with steps that prevent the access for wheelchairs.
