TORRE ROMANA DE CENTUM CELLAS

INFORMACIÓN HISTÓRICO-ARTÍSTICA

Es una soberbia torre romana construida con magníficos sillares, sin argamasa, la torre tiene 3 cuerpos de altura; formaba parte de una villa romana del s. I d.C., más tarde en el s. III el edificio fue destruido por un incendio, aunque continuo siendo habitado, hacia el s. X u XI se construyó una capilla en la zona

Enclave vallado, con puerta abierta.

ACCESO

Acceso muy sencillo desde Guarda o Castelo Branco por la A-23 (peaje electrónico) o por la N-18. Se ubica muy cerca de la localidad de Belmonte, justo en el pueblo de Colmeal da Torre.

ROMAN TOWER OF CENTUM CELLAS

HISTORICAL-ARTISTIC INFORMATION

It is a wonderful Roman tower built with fantastic ashlars, without mortar, the tower has 3 floors, was part of a Roman villa from the 1st c. A.D. later in the 3rd c. the building was destroyed by fire, although is continued to be inhabited; towards the 10 th or 11th centuries a chapel was built in the area.

LOCATION

Very easy access from Guarda or Castelo Branco by the A-23 (electronic toll) or the N-18. It is located very close to the town of Belmonte, just in the village of Colmeal da Torre.

Dispone de una gran torre de homenaje de planta rectangular con almenas, en el acceso podemos ver matacanes. Desde el siglo XIII Belmonte tuvo una comunidad judía, hoy en día se puede visitar el Museo Judaico (Primer Museo Judaico de Portugal). After a great fire the castle was abandoned. It has a large tower of homage of rectangular plan with battlements, in the access we can see machicolations. Since the 13th century Belmonte had a Jewish community, today you can visit the Jewish Museum (First Jewish Museum of Portugal). La iglesia de Santiago se remonta a los siglos XII-XIII, es una construcción de estilo románico, dentro tenemos el panteón de la familia Cabral, que data del siglo XV, es emocionante rememorar la aventura del descubridor del Brasil Don Pedro Álvares Cabral.

CHURCH OF SÃOTIAGO – BELMONTE

HISTORICAL-ARTISTIC INFORMATION

The church of São Tiago dates back to the 12 th -13 th centuries, it is a Romanesque style building. Inside we have the Cabral family pantheon, dating from the 15 th century, it is exciting to recall the adventures of the Brazilian discoverer Don Pedro Álvares Cabral.

Summer time is 9:30 am to 1:00 pm and from 2:30 pm to 6:00 pm and winter time is from 9:00 am to 12:30 pm and from 2:00 to 5:30.

El Museo Judaico de Belmonte es una síntesis de la aportación de los judíos portugueses al arte, la ciencia, los oficios y el comercio a la cultura portuguesa. El Museo tiene hasta 3 plantas, recepción, exposición permanente y exposición temporal.

Belmonte se ubica entre Guarda y Covilh ã , puedes acceder por la N-18 o por la A-23.

ACCESO PARA MINUSVÁLIDOS

Visita exterior para el castillo, la iglesia de São Tiago y el Museo Judaico; podrás entrar en la iglesia de Santiago con silla de ruedas, pero el espacio es reducido; la rampa de acceso al castillo es dura, de firme empedrado, solo podrás acceder al patio de armas.

Outside visit to the castle, the church of São Tiago and the Jewish Museum; you can enter in the church of Santiago with wheelchair, but the space is small; the access ramp to the castle is hard, paved surface, you can only access to the courtyard.
