MOSQUE OF CÓRDOBA
HISTORICAL-ARTISTIC INFORMATION
The building is a World Heritage Site. For some time it was the 2º largest mosque in the world, only behind the mosque of Mecca and until (1588), when was built the Blue Mosque of Istanbul. The courtyard of Los Naranjos (Courtyard of Ablutions) is famous, which is accessed through the Door of Forgiveness; its beautiful horsechoe arches are wonderful; over 1,300 columns that create an authentic forest of columns; the old minaret was dismantled and in its place was erected a second minaret, that would be toppled for the building of the Herrerian bell tower of 17 th century; the fantastic mihrab doesn't look to Mecca, but to the south.
Caliphate chronology, began the building in (786) in the place of the Visigoth basilica of San Vicente Martir. During the Emirate and especially in the Caliphate the mosque was enlarged and reformed. In the 13 th century it became a cathedral and in (1523) began the Renaissance and Plateresque works for the church.

The winter timetable (November-February) is Monday through Saturday from 8,30 to 8; Sundays and holidays are from 8,30 to 11,30 and from 3 to 6; Summer timetable (March – October) is from Monday to Saturday from 10 to 7; Sundays and holidays are from 8,30 to 11,30 and from 3 to 7. General rate € 8.
