INFORMACIÓN HISTÓRICO-ARTÍSTICA

La iglesia de San Juan de la Almedina se remonta al siglo XI, pero la construcción actual data del siglo XVI, hoy en día el edificio esta integrado en el complejo del Museo Nacional Machado de Castro. En el patio del museo hay una bonita galería de arcos con una magnífica vista de Coimbra; el museo es interesante por la colección de escultura de los siglos XIV al XVI.

HISTORICAL-ARTISTIC INFORMATION

The church of São João de la Almedina dates back to the 11th century, but the current construction dates from the 16th century, today the building is integrated into the complex of the National Museum Machado de Castro. In the courtyard of the museum there is a gallery of arches with a nice view of Coimbra; the museum has a collection of sculpture from the 14th to 16th c.

Timetable are from Tuesday to Sunday from 10 am to 12,30 pm and from 2 pm to 6 pm, Ticket € 6.

Es la catedral nueva de estilo barroco, que se instalo en la vieja iglesia del colegio jesuítico, la fachada tiene 2 cuerpos separados por una gran cornisa y se corona con frontones curvilíneos y pináculos geométricos, en las hornacinas se cobijan las esculturas de diversos santos jesuíticos; en el interior sobresale la bóveda de cañón, y retablos dorados.

ENTRADAS Y HORARIOS

La entrada a la catedral es gratis, y la entrada al museo tiene entrada general de 1€. Horario de martes a sábado de 8:30-12:00 y de 14:00-18:30, domingos de 9:00-12:30 y de 17:00-19:00, lunes y festivos cerrado.

HISTORICAL-ARTISTIC INFORMATION

It is the new cathedral of Baroque style, which was installed in the old church of the Jesuit school, the façade has 2 bodies separated by a large cornice and crowned with a curvilinear pediments and geometrical pinnacles, in the niches are sheltered the sculptures of several Jesuit saints; inside the barrel vault and the golden altarpiece are wonderful.

UNIVERSIDADE VELHA (COIMBRA)

Aunque Portugal tenía universidad desde (1290) gracias al Rey Dinis, la universidad de Coimbra nace cuando João III decide llevar la universidad de Lisboa a Coimbra en (1537). El acceso se hace por la Porta Ferrea, de estilo manierista. A la derecha de la Porta Férrea se encuentra el Palacio Universitario, un edificio manuelino. En el Patio de las Escuelas podrás admirar la fachada de un gran número de edificios, entre los que destacamos la torre del Reloj (siglo XVIII), la Capela de São Miguel (siglo XVI), la Biblioteca Joanina (siglo XVIII), y la escultura de João III.

Although in Portugal there was a university since (120) thanks to king Dinis, the University of Coimbra was born when João III decided to move the University of Lisbon to Coimbra in (1537). To the Courtyard of the Schools it is acceded by Porta Ferrea, a Manueline building. In the Courtyard of the Schools you can admire the façade of a large number of buildings, stands out the Clock Tower (18th century), the Chapel of São Miguel (16th century) and the nice Biblioteca Joanina (18th century), as well as the famous sculpture of João III.

La iglesia de la Santa Cruz de Coimbra es un fundación que se remonta al siglo XII, gozó esta fundación agustiniana de protección de la Santa sede y de la monarquía portuguesa que la doto financieramente. El edificio medieval fue prácticamente reformado en el siglo XVI, debido al mal estado del edificio, en el presbiterio podemos encontrar los monumentos funerarios de los reyes Alfonso I y Sancho I, dos obras escultóricas sublimes. En el monasterio tenemos un claustro de 2 pisos de estética gótica.

The church of Santa Cruz de Coimbra is a foundation that dates back to the 12th century, had this Agustinian foundation the protection of the Holy See and of the Portuguese monarchy that helped it financially. The Medieval building was practically rebuilt in the 16 th century, due to the poor condition of the building, in the presbitery we can find the burial monuments of the kings Afonso I and Sancho I, 2 sublime sculptural works. In the monastery we have a cloister of Gothic aesthetics.

The historic center of Coimbra has strong slopes, and wheelchairs users need additional assistance; even it is very difficult to go into in some monumets the visit isn't feasible by the presence of stairs (Se Velha, Se Nova, São Tiago and Arch de Almedina), on the other hand, you'll can enter in the Courtyard of the Schools.

In the convent of Santa Clara you'll accede with wheelchair to many spaces.
