La iglesia tiene 2 etapas de construcción, una gótica del siglo XIII de la que sobresale la gran torre; así como una segunda etapa barroca, con un fuerte influjo de la basílica del Pilar de Zaragoza y una concepción cúbica a modo de hallenkirche (iglesia salón con espacio de alturas igualitarias), es una obra del siglo XVIII, destacando la fachada enmarcada en un arco de medio punto, concebida como un retablo, en 3 alturas, con las imágenes de varios santos como San Pedro, San Pablo, Santo Tomas de Aquino y San Vicente Ferrer.

The church has 2 stages of building, a Gothic of the 13 th c. of which stands out the big tower; as well as a second Baroque stage, with a strong influence of the Basilica del Pilar (Zaragoza) and a cubic conception like a hallenkirche (church hall with space of equal heights), is a work of 18 th c., standing out the façade framed in a semicircular arch, conceived as an altarpiece is arranged in 3 heights, with the images of several saints as San Pedro, San Pablo, Santo Tomas de Aquino and San Vicente Ferrer.

LOS ESCOLAPIOS (ALCAÑIZ)

La iglesia de los escolapios es un templo que data de varias épocas; pero data sobre todo del siglo XVIII; en el exterior sobresale la bonita torre de estilo mudéjar tardío; en el interior destacamos la iglesia de una nave, las capillas laterales y el coro alto a los pies.

The church of the Piarists is a temple that dates from several eras; but it dates mainly from the 18 th century; outside we stand out the beautiful late Mudejar style tower; inside we stand out the nave church, the side chapels and the high choir at the foot.

El castillo de los Calatravos es una construcción de origen andalusí, se data en el siglo XII, destacando la torre de homenaje de estilo gótico; el edificio ha sido muy transformado y hoy es Parador Nacional.

The Calatravos Castle is a building of Andalusian origin, dating back to the 12 th century, highlighting the Gothic style keep; the building has been transformed and today it is a National Parador.

INFORMACIÓN HISTORICO-ARTÍSTICA

La iglesia de Santa María de Hijar es una iglesia gótico-mudéjar, con reformas posteriores en e siglo XVI y XVIII; en el exterior destaca la decoración mudéjar de los ladrillos, la torre campanario y la fachada con soportal y frontón triangular; en el interior destacan las cubiertas de bóveda de crucería y el ábside poligonal.

The church of Santa María de Hijar is a Gothic-Mudejar church, with later reforms in the 16 th and 18 th century; outside we stand out the Mudejar decoration of the bricks, the bell tower and tha façade with arcade and triangular pediment; inside we stand out the covers of ribbed vault and polygonal apse.

CASTILLO (HIJAR)

INFORMACIÓN HISTORICO-ARTÍSTICA

El castillo medieval de Hijar se data en el siglo XIV; la construcción evidencia las distintas reformas que ha sufrido, hay muros de ladrillo, de mampostería y de tapial; el acceso se realiza por un soportal de 2 arcos de ladrillo, en el interior tenemos un patio porticado; estado de conservación ruinoso.

CASTLE (HIJAR)

The medieval castle of Hijar dates back to the 14 th century; the building evidences the different reforms that it has undergone, there are walls of brick, rubblework masonry and mud walls; access is through an arcade of 2 brick arches, inside we have a porticoed courtyard; ruinous conservation state.

La iglesia de Nuestra Señora de La Asunción de Albalate del Arzobispo, es una iglesia de estilo gótico-renacentista, construida en el siglo XVI, sobre el solar de la antigua iglesia de Santa María de la que se conserva la torre mudéjar; en el exterior destaca la fachada de tipo clasicista; en el interior destaca la cubierta de bóveda de crucería estrellada.

El castillo-palacio arzobispal de Albalate es una construcción que data del siglo XIII, culminándose en el siglo XIV, por ello los elementos góticos están muy presentes; construido con sillería y ladrillo, la muralla exterior es rectangular, creando en su interior un patio de armas.

The archiepiscopal castle-palace of Albalate is a building dating from the 13 th century, culminating in the 14 th century, so the Gothic elements are very present; built with ashlar masonry and brick, the outer wall is rectangular creating a courtyard inside.

CABEZO DE ALCALA (AZAILA)

INFORMACIÓN HISTORICO-ARTÍSTICA

Podemos ver calles enlosadas, viviendas, murallas, también se ha identificado un templo, termas, una zona comercial, un aljibe y un puente. La datación es desde el siglo VII a.C. para la fundación, abandonándose en el 49 a.C. por el ataque del ejército pompeyano. Las primeras excavaciones las dirigió Juan Cabré y Antonio Beltrán, después M. Beltrán Lloris las continuó en los años 70'.

Horario de invierno (13 de octubre a 30 de abril) es de 10:00-16:00 viernes tarde, sábado y domingo mañana; y de verano (1 de mayo a 12 de octubre) de 10:00-14:00 y de 16:00-20:00 abre viernes tarde, sábado y domingo mañana, excepto los meses de julio, agosto y primera mitad de septiembre que abre todos los días menos el lunes.

SITE OF CABEZO DE ALCALA (AZAILA)

HISTORICAL-ARTISTIC INFORMATION

We can see paved streets, dwellings, walls, also has identified a temple, thermal baths, a trade area, a cistern and a bridge. The dating is from 7 th century BC for the foundation, being abandoned in 49 BC. by the attack of Pompey´s army. The first excavations were directed by Juan Cabré and Antonio Beltrán, later M. Beltrán Lloris continued them in the 70's.

Winter timetable (October 13 th to April 30 th ) is from 10 am to 6 pm open Friday afternoon, Saturday and Sunday morning. The summer timetable (May 1 st to October 12 th ) from 10 am to 2 pm and from 4 pm to 8 pm open Friday afternoon, Saturday and Sunday morning, except July, August and first half of September which open every day except Monday.

ACCESO A ENCLAVES

ACCESO

Acceso por la N-232 (Zaragoza-Alcañiz); y desde Hijar coger la A-224 para Albalate del Arzobispo.

AZAILA: Para llegar a Azaila desde Zaragoza, coger la A-68 y en Burgo de Ebro la N-232 que va directo a Azaila.

El acceso al yacimiento se realiza desde el pueblo, por la carretera a Almochuel.

 

ACCESS TO SITES

LOCATION

Access by the N-232 (Zaragoza-Alcañiz); and from Hijar take the A-224 to Albalate del Arzobispo.

AZAILA: To get to Azaila from Zaragoza, take the A-68 and in Burgo de Ebro the N-232 that goes directly to Azaila.

The access to the site is made from the village by the road to Almochuel.
