CASTILLO DE SAGUNTUM (SAGUNTO)

INFORMACIÓN HISTORICO-ARTÍSTICA

Ciudad romana, famosa por la Segunda Guerra Púnica. Los muros del Cerro del Castell al parecer son ibéricos (antigua Arse ibérica) . Estructuralmente esta dividido en varios recintos. Las murallas miden 1 Km. de longitud, dentro puede contemplarse una magnífica colección de inscripciones.

El Castillo tiene cronología amplia con restos romanos, visigodos, árabes y cristianos. La localidad cuenta con Museo Arqueológico.

Horario de verano (junio-septiembre) de martes a sábado de 10:00-20:00, domingos y festivos de 10:00-14:00, lunes cerrado y el horario de invierno ( octubre-mayo) es de martes a sábado de 10:00-18:00, domingos y festivos de 10:00-14:00, lunes cerrado.

   

CASTLE OF SAGUNTUM (SAGUNTO)

HISTORICAL-ARTISTIC INFORMATION

Roman city famous for the Second Punic War. The walls of Cerro del castillo seem to be iberian (the ancient Iberian Arse). Structurally it is divided in several enclosures. The walls measure 1 Km. in length, inside you can see a magnificent collection of inscriptions.

The Iberian-Roman chronology for the site, the castle has a very long chronology with Roman, Visigoth, Arab and Christian remains. The town has an Archaeological Museum

FORO DE SAGUNTUM (SAGUNTO)

INFORMACIÓN HISTORICO-ARTÍSTICA

Tenemos restos de un foro romano (muros con contrafuertes), con templo o capitolio, basílica y tabernae; e n el lado sur había una gran cisterna de 67 m. de longitud y un doble pórtico. El Capitolio se ha datado en el siglo II a.C., por tanto es republicano, pero casi todos los edificios son de época augustea.

FORUM OF SAGUNTUM (SAGUNTO)

HISTORICAL-ARTISTIC INFORMATION

We have remains of a Roman forum (walls with buttresses) with a temple or capitolium, basilica and tabernae; on the south side there is a large cistern of 67 m. length and a double gate. The Capitolium was dated in the 2 nd century BC, at Republican times, but much buildings are from Augustan period

TEATRO DE SAGUNTUM (SAGUNTO)

INFORMACIÓN HISTORICO-ARTÍSTICA

Sagunto tiene un teatro romano para 8.000 espectadores. Cronología romana para el teatro, en concreto se data del 50 d.C. Parte del graderio se asienta directamente sobre la ladera norte del cerro, la orchestra mide 22 m. de diámetro, en los 90' el frente escénico fue restaurado .

THEATER OF SAGUNTUM (SAGUNTO)

HISTORICAL-ARTISTIC INFORMATION

Sagunto has a Roman theater that could house around 8,000 spectators. Roman chronology for theater, was dated in 50 AD. Part of the rows “cavea” sits directly over the northen slope of the hill, the orchestra measures 22 m. of diameter; in 90's the scenic front was restored.

NECRÓPOLIS JUDIA DE SAGUNTO

INFORMACIÓN HISTORICO-ARTÍSTICA

Durante el Medievo, en Sagunto existió una necrópolis judía, constituida por un grupo de hipogeos o cuevas artificiales excavada en la roca, se han contabilizado al menos 50 de estas tumbas, dentro hay una cámara más o menos cuadrangular, en algunas tumbas puede haber alguna hornacina

JEWISH CEMETERY - SAGUNTO

HISTORICAL-ARTISTIC INFORMATION

During the Middle Ages, in Sagunto there existed a Jewish necropolis, constituted by a group of hypogeos or artificial caves excavated in the rock at least 50 of these tombs have been counted, inside there is a square chamber more or less quadrangular, in some tombs there can be some niche.

ACCESO A SAGUNTO

UBICACIÓN

Acceso desde Valencia coger la A-7 dirección Castellón y Barcelona, el yacimiento esta muy bien indicado. Para acceder al teatro romano debes ir a la calle del castillo, desde por el camino que asciende al castillo veras primero la necrópolis judía y después las murallas del castillo, dentro encontrarás el foro romano.

ACCESO PARA MINUSVÁLIDOS

Con sillas de ruedas no se puede acceder a todos los puntos, pero con ayuda podrás subir muchas cuestas, principal handicap para usuarios de sillas de ruedas.

LOCATION

Access from Valencia take the A-7 direction Castellón and Barcelona, the site is very well indicated. To access the Roman Theater you must go to the street of the Castle, from the road that ascends to the castle you will see the Jewish necropolis first and then the walls of the castle, inside will find the Roman Forum.

ACCESS FOR THE HANDICAPPED

With whelchairs you can´t access all the points, but with help you can climb many slopes, the main handicap for wheelchair users.
